History: Laurel is born in 1842 only a scant ten months after her older sister. Her childhood is fairly normal. She is taught to be a good little girl and is very close with Ailsa. A younger sister is born when Laurel is three, Laurel loves her and her maternal nature begins to show itself. She is six when her first sign of magic appears; flower blossoms dance together to form a crown for Heather.
Ailsa going to school stings, she misses her older sister and longs to join her. But a balm to this is that Laurel for once is the eldest and gets to boss around Heather and tend to Bianca when she is born. This is the only year that Laurel will experience such a life until she has children of her own.
In 1854 Laurel joins Ailsa at Hogwarts and is also sorted in to Ravenclaw. She feels a bit out of place with her loud bubbly personality among so many quiet booklovers and feels like the sorting hat made a mistake. She enjoys her courses, but especially herbology and potions. When the time comes she adds in earth magic. Laurel is lucky enough to be able to complete all seven years at Hogwarts.
After her graduation in 1860 Laurel debuts. She enjoys social events with Ailsa by her side and finds that she enjoys flirting, as well as dancing. Then suddenly she has to learn to share her sister as Ailsa gives her no time to adjust to the idea of her older sister starting a family of her own when she elopes.
She is invited to stay with a friend from school at her country home to wait out the initial scandal. A cousin of the friend is also staying in the country with her friend, Basil Potts. The two of them bond over a fondness for plants and spend many hours walking and talking among the countryside as spring fades to summer. When it is time to return home Laurel and Basil begin to exchange letters. It is not long before an understanding is reached.
By the summer of 1861 the couple are happily married. Laurel loves her husband and settle on a large plot of land where Laurel and Basil can indulge in their dreams of being surrounded by plants. Basil builds them a greenhouse and it is not long before Laurel has talked him in to opening a shop. The shop opens the same year (1862) as Laurel gives birth to their first child; an adorable little girl whom she thinks the name Amaryllis fits perfectly. The following year sees Senna born as the second daughter to the young couple.
When Thistle is born in 1865 Laurel worries about Basil's reaction to this third daughter. She adores the young child but feels like her husband has withdrawn a bit. Besides, three daughters to provide doweries for is going to be a challenge.
Laurel thrives as a mother, wife, and shopowner. Life with their daughters always gives Laurel something to smile about. She teaches her daughters to love nature as much as she does. In these years it is hard to feel the passing of time. She gives birth to another daughter, Zinnia, in 1868 and another, Daffodil, in 1870. The house is so full of love, laughter, and flowers that Laurel rarely looks beyond her happy life. Yes, a house full of girls will be worrisome when it comes time to marry them off, but she tries not to worry about it. She wouldn't trade her daughters for anything, She calls them her bouquet. She adds to her bouqet in 1873 when Dahlia is born and begins to realize how much time is passing when Amaryllis goes off to Hogwarts that fall. It seems strange to be without her eldest daughter but she no sooner has a chance to adjust to this when Senna is off to Hogwarts as well. Her final blossom, Calla, is born in 1875. The following year Thistle is off to Hogwarts too. How they will provide doweries for seven daughters Laurel doesn't know, but she continues to throw herself into her work and her daughters.
The calm of her life is shattered in 1877. Herb and her spend nights worrying over what to do. It is with a heavy heart that they leave behind their home, the beautiful gardens and greenhouses they had spent their adult life cultivating, the house where they raised their daughters, the shop where they had made friends with their community. Herb does his best to comfort his wife and with Laurel's input they choose a plot of land on Thimblewhit Turn on the edge of Hogsmeade near the park. Before the house is even settled they built up a greenhouse and plot out a garden. They open a shop on high street and Herb has more opportunities to work with how close to the Black Lake they are. It's not long before Laurel finds the silver linings of living in a town full of witches and wizards. She mourns their old home but throws herself into embracing this new one.
1879 sees Zinnia off to Hogwarts, Herb worries that Daffodil has not displayed her first signs of magic. Laurel is more concerned with how empty the house feels with four of her daughters out of the house and begins to fret over her daughters' futures.
Where has time gone? Laurel wonders as Amaryllis graduates from Hogswarts, begins an internship at Hogsmeade Hospital and debutes. Laurel focuses on trying to get her eldest daughter settled. The next year brings Senna's graduation and Daffodil's first year at Hogwarts. Senna begins to help Laurel athe the florist. Laurel's focus on getting her daughters settled as happily as she is begins. She finds that she loves trying to find the perfect match for them. Daffodil brings Jack Dorset home on break and Laurel and Herb treat him just as one of their own.
Laurel tries to support Eloise during the events of 1884, seeing her sister settled in London with their mother at the end of it.
1884 Thistle graduates and makes her debut. She also helps at the shop and Laurel is impressed with her plant developements. That summer Laurel worries over the plague and is so very grateful the fire spares them. After the summer Laurel has spent worrying she finds it harder to send Dahlia to Hogwarts than it has been to send any of her daughters since Amaryllis but Dahlia does attend. The years continue on and Laurel happily frets over her daughters and their prospects and is thrilled to see Amaryllis married in 1886. In 1887 Zinnia graduates and debuts, staying at the shop to help Laurel as well. No sooner does Laurel settle in to having Zinnia home when she has to adjust to her youngest setting off for Hogwarts. Calla's absense at home is rough for Laurel. To make up for it she throws herself in to getting her daughters settled. Before Laurel realizes it Daffodil has graduated and is now out as well. There are four daughters to marry off and Laurel finds little time to worry about anything else. This worry is somewhat lessened by Senna's marriage in 1890, now if only she can get Thistle, Zinnia, and Daffodil married before Dahlia graduates. But neither girl seems inclinded toward any suitors. Dahlia graduates in 1891 and shows more interest in debuting than her sisters do. On a whim and feeling mishevious, Laurel uses magic to set up a maze in Padmore Park. She only ever tells Basil, her wondderful Herb, about it. That fall Laurel is devistated. Four of her daughters are caughtt up in the explosion at the flower shop. Thistle, Daffodil, Dahlia, and Calla are all saved by the help of Mr. Prewett and young Jack Dorset much to Laurel's unending gratitude. They build the flowershop back up and reopen in January of 1892. Between Daffodil's sudden and intense interest in the shop (not to mention the depression Laurel thinks she is struggling with) and the rebuilt shop, Laurel decides to host a flower show in May. Soon after Daffodil surprises her by opening her own store in London. Laurel misses having her daughter home and worries about her living on her own but she is very prod of her. Laurel continues to worry about her four daughters who are all out and Calla who will be sooner than she expects she will realize.
Laurel's concerns are assauged in December when both Daffodil and Dahlia invite gentlemen to the family Christmas party and Mr. Honeyduke asks to court Dahlia. This surprises Laurel but it also puts her at ease. Mr. Honeyduke seems like he would make a wonderful husband to her second youngest daughter. Further good news comes in spring of 1893 when Mr. Grimstone, another fine young gentleman and an excellent match for the much happier Daffodil, and Mr. Honeyduke asks for permission to marry Dahlia. Bouyed by the success of her daughters Laurel decides to host another flower show in hopes of finding matches for Thistle and Zinnia. If she can see them also settled before Calla gradutes it will ease her mind greatly.
