Quidditch World Cup Returns to Britain
Country to Host August Finals

Quidditch fans will most assuredly rejoice at this latest release from none other than Fitzroy Prewett, the new Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports:

"...It is with utmost pleasure that I can confirm our great nation will, once again, host the Quidditch World Cup finals in the summer of this year. This will mark the second time in less than a decade that we have been granted this honour, which proves a boon both to our economy and our cultural identity. This frequency, I believe, is a testament to the high caliber of athletes that our quidditch teams turn out—and the high caliber of fans that make up our population. I am excited to reveal more details as they become available."

That's right: the Quidditch World Cup will be returning to the pitches of Britain this summer!

The Cup was last hosted within our borders in 1883, which saw Egypt take home the ultimate prize. Britain, tragically, did not make it to the finals, but one can hope that this year sees them surge ever closer to glory. This cup was most notable for the tragic mid-game death of one of the Japanese players.

It also brought one of the Quidditch League's favourite teams, the Hogsmeade Howlers, into existence. Their home pitch just outside of Irvingly, fans might recall, was originally constructed for the 1883 showdown! Will the world return to Irvingly this summer, or shall another village be granted that honour?

No word yet on the final roster for our own national team, though some fans (particularly female) in our own Prophet offices have expressed dismay that Mr. Prewett is unlikely to find himself on that particular list.

The Daily Prophet would like to apologize for the delay in today's publication, however, this particular story was received only this morning, requiring a rearrangement of today's layout.

American to wed belle of Hogsmeade society
St.John-Black to wed Finch in private ceremony

It has been announced that Miss Melody Finch of Hogsmeade is set to wed Mister Samuel St. John-Black, lately of New York. Mister St.John-Black, the American representative in the United Kingdom, met Miss Finch through her father. The Ex-thunderbird student has had a notable foreign service career, but it was an English rose that captured his heart. Mister St.John-Black, along with his sister is intending to live in England to accommodate Miss Finch being close to her family during the early trials of married life.

Miss Finch, the daughter of Arthur and Marianne Finch, both of Hogsmeade, is an exe-Ravenclaw, will be hoping that her American husband knows to set up home in the fashionable half of Hogsmeade, especially if she will have the honour of assisting his sister through her first social season in England.

The wedding is due to take place in Hogsmeade, just after St. Valentines on the 19th of February. Let us hope that the proximity to the festival of love will bless the couple with years of happiness and a loving life together!

Lyness Family Burned, One Survivor
Miss Emily Lyness Orphaned

On the night of January 29th, a fire had started and spread quickly in the Lyness household. In the end, it had killed Mr. and Mrs. Lyness, as well as almost all of their children. Miss Emily Lyness had somehow managed to escape unharmed. Two staff members had also perished in the flames.

Initial investigations had speculated that Mrs. Lyness herself had begun the fire in a fit of veela rage. However, upon further investigation, the source of the fire seems to be nothing more than a candle that had been across the house from where Mrs. Lyness was reportedly sleeping. Her lady's maid, who had left soon after her employers had gone to bed, had confirmed that Mrs. Lyness had seemed rather tired that night and was fast asleep by the time our witness had left.

Miss Emily Lyness has been quiet on how she had managed to get out of the house, or as to why her family had not been able to manage the same. Officials believe that the child remains in a state of shock. The young heiress has now been released into the custody of her maternal grandfather, a muggle.

"I have raised her mother to be a proper lady of society, as well as my two other daughters," He said. "It does not matter if Emily is magical, for one of my other daughters is also a witch. I am confident that I will be very capable in raising my granddaughter." Whether that be the case remains to be seen.
