The London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic would like to remind you not to get too focused on society this Season and wants you to keep your skills sharp with a dueling tournament! Tournaments will be hosted at all levels at their headquarters. Student-aged duels will take place IC Saturday, July 23rd while two levels of adult duels, as well as the awards ceremony, will occur Sunday, July 24th.
The "CHILDREN" tournament is open to all pupils currently enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (incoming 2nd to 7th years). A representative from the Department of Magical Education and a member of the school faculty will both be on hand to ensure students are not using underadge magic outside of their bouts. The entry fee will be 1s, with the tournament winner earning themselves 3G and a trophy.
The "CLINIC" tournament is open to any adult, with a 1s entry fee. The winner will take home 5G, and the top four contenders will each take home a ribbon. Professionals will be on hand throughout for quick refreshers on the most basic spells: shield charms, disarming charms, and stunning spells.
The "COMPETITIVE" tournament is technically open to all adults, but has a 5s entry fee. The winner will take home two thirds of the prize pot, with second place snagging the remaining third. Little Suzie Neverdueled is unlikely to find herself here!
There are rewards OOC, too! In addition to the Dueling '92 stamp—
—duel participation in general can help you earn these pretties—check out the stamps page for details:
- All proper decorum must be observed, including bowing or curtsying to ones opponent at the open and close of the match.
- During a duel, there shall be no physical contact of any sort between contestants. Should one contestant require assistance, then the match will be stopped by the official.
- Excessive force must not be used. The purpose of the contest is to display strength and skill; it is not to injure or maim. Likewise, all spells used must be allowed under the law.
- Creativity is encouraged; a match that consists merely of stunning and disarming is not enjoyable for the audience.
- Matches will be moderated by a member of the staff. Follow instructions by the IC moderator regarding who is to post. After both participants have posted once, wait for the moderator to post again before continuing.
- Points will be given by the moderator based on an OOC modified dice roll. While commentary by the official is IC, the scoring is done in the fairest way possible.
- Do not state how your action will end, but rather what is intended. That way, when the point is determined then you can post the results of your actions in a way that fits with the scoring.
- If a participant does not post within three days [72 hours], they will be disqualified and the other participant wins the match.
- Keep all spells age appropriate. A first year could not cast an Unforgivable (although that would get them disqualified anyway). If you are not sure if your character could cast a spell at their age, feel free to ask other members or the staff for opinions.
Assuming your character wants (and can afford) to enter, please post the appropriate form(s) below on or before June 26th! No more than eight duelists per player (and no more than three per player per category), please!
