Jules Wright vs. Antigone Lestrange
#1
July 24th, 182 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic

Hopefully this duel would be a bit more robust. Mrs. Lestrange had had mixed results with duels in the past. But then again, she was going up against a Gringotts Cursebreaker. Figuring there was nothing to it but to commence, Faustus read the rules and motioned to Mr. Wright to begin.

Jules recognized the nerves he always felt when he was about to start a duel. Why did he sign up for this again? Luckily he knew they would disappear the moment they began, as adrenaline would take over. As he stood there he was happy with all the practice and experience he had in dueling from his time in the dueling club.

He looked at the woman in front of him, Antigone Lestrange. He recognized her from his time at Hogwarts, she had been in Slytherin if he remembered correctly. He did not remember if she was worth anything in a duel though, and prepared for the worst.

Faustus read the rules aloud and indicated for Jules to begin. Jules took a bow, as was expected of him, before he raised his wand.

'Here we go,' he thought as he flicked his wand. "Expelliarmus!"

I'm the devil in disguise

There was the slightest inkling of recognition where her opponent was concerned and due to mixing of backgrounds at Hogwarts she had to assume that was the reason for it but for the most part she had no idea who this diminutive blond was nor what brought him to the tougher competition level. Maybe he was an auror or something. Not that it mattered, she was wholly convinced she could take him out whatever his job title. With that in mind she waved her wand and tried to turn him into a rabbit.

Halfway through Mrs. Lestrange's wandwork, her wand sprung from her hand as if it had been scalded by her touch. "This point to Mr. Wright." Faustus declared, as Mrs. Lestrange's wand was returned to her. "Mrs. Lestrange, when you're ready, you may proceed."

When signing up to the dueling tournament she hadn't really considered her opponents, only that it was an opportunity to duel legitimately and her ego dictated that she sign up for the most experienced bracket. It was only as her wand was ripped from her hand mid-spell that she started to question her decision. And then she lost her temper. With a vicious wand movement she took aim and cast a spell that would twist his wrists 180 degrees so they were facing the wrong way, not only would it hurt but he'd be the one dropping his wand this time.

A smile spread across his face as Jules saw the wand spring from his opponent's hand. So far so good.

After Faustus returned her wand and told her to proceed, Jules thought he saw her getting emotional as she viciously flicked her wand. This cannot be good, he though as he immediately responded with a shield charm in an attempt to block Antigone's spell. "Protego!"

He was standing far enough away, but Faustus didn't miss the ferocity with which Mrs. Lestrange hurled her next spell at Mr. Wright. He always attempted to remain impartial - this was hardly a fight to the death, after all - but there were such cases that he found himself internally wincing if someone were on the receiving end of a particularly nasty hex.

Luckily Mr. Wright seemed prepared this time, and his shield exploded in front of him. Mrs. Lestrange's spell bounced off the shield and headed towards the shielded crowd. Normally spells stopped at the shield in the crowd, but the witch's hex seemed quite well cast too. It ricocheted off the crowd's shield, then went straight for Mrs. Lestrange herself, missing her by a hair.

"This second point goes to Mr. Wright who shall advance to the next round." Faustus announced, before stepping off the platform to clear the way for the next contestants.

Jules Wright: 9.5 | Antigone Lestrange: 8 —
