Mrs. Fallon Hatchitt vs. Mr. Faustus Prewett
#1
April 27th, 1894 — Hogsmeade Memorial Assembly Rooms, Hogsmeade

Well this was a supreme waste of his time. The result was obvious without having to watch any vulgar female dueling, Mrs. Hatchitt was at a major disadvantage not only because she was a woman but she was facing her superior! Merlin's beard this was a farce of a tournament! Sadly the new Minister hadn't seen fit to protect him from this odious service any more than the last had. Not that he needed nor sought their protection, however it would've been nice to have had a valid, above board excuse to get out of it.

Mrs. Hatchitt, the honorific caught in his mouth slightly as he was forced to accept the reality that the woman's misguided husband allowed her to work and in such a profession, will begin the duel. Going first wasn't going to be enough to win her this duel, he was sure of that.

Fallon's eyes narrowed at her boss across the floor. She knew the likelihood in besting him would come from both determined focus and perfect form. And so, after the required pleasantries and a steeling breath, Fallon cast what she hoped was a perfect stupefy.
Faustus Prewett

Faustus would be lying if he said he wasn't hoping that Hatchitt would go easy on him. He could see the resolve in her eyes from across the room. Bowing, he cast Impedimenta.

Charles pursed his lips as he watched the exchange of spells before him. His expression momentarily turned into a grimace of disgust as the Head Auror toppled over. Mrs. Hatchitt appeared to be a bit sluggish but he could hardly deprive her the first point when her opponent was crumpled in a heap on the floor. Damn it. He sulkily reversed the effects of both spells. The first round to Mrs. Hatchitt. Mr. Prewett, begin when you're ready. Ready to duel properly that was. Probably he felt he had to restrain himself because she was a women. Women truly made a mockery of dueling.

He neither liked Macmillan nor cared for his politics, but even then Faustus couldn’t fight the mild embarrassment of having been bested by Hatchitt. Even so, he thanked Merlin she hadn’t sent vipers swarming after him.

He gave her an acknowledging nod once more before conjuring a block of stone from the floor and sending it flying in her direction.

Fallon didn't allow a single glimpse of pleasure at having bested Faustus in the first round through her focused determination. As soon as she saw his conjuring, Fallon shot back with depulso, which would hopefully see the block flying back towards Faustus.

Mrs. Hatchitt's spell technically worked... Sort of. The stone block wasn't thrown back in the opposite direction, however it was knocked off its trajectory. By a few inches. Mrs. Hatchitt was spared being hit square-on by the block but it still slammed into one side of her. That was more like it.

Mr. Prewett wins the second round. Mrs. Hatchitt, please begin the deciding round.

The sting in her shoulder infuriated Fallon, so much so that it was only a last second change of plans that spared Faustus from a future of vomiting slugs. Instead, Fallon raised her wand and cast what she fully believed would be a perfect petrificus totalus.

The next time they sparred, Fallon would ensure he spent some time with the slugs.

Faustus winced apologetically at the blow the concrete dealt Hatchitt. On their second round, he waved his wand to make the chandelier crash in front of them to take the brunt of her spell.

It was impossible to tell whether the body bind curse had rendered the chandelier incapable of movement as it was, presently at least, an inanimate object. If Charles was honest it had looked like a full body bind curse as far as it was possible to identify it without it hitting a live target, but he preferred to believe it had been an utter failure compounded into an even greater failure as it had been physically blocked by Prewett's superior timing.

The best part, however, was the candle that was sent flying from the chandelier upon impact that flew across the room and hit Mrs. Hatchitt in the face. It had, in fact, seemed to hit her in the eye.

Order had been decisively restored.

Mr. Prewett wins the duel.
