Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Trystan Selwyn vs. Faustus Prewett
#1
April 28th, 1894 — Hogsmeade Memorial Assembly Rooms
Dueling Tournament

Merlin he hoped Faustus lost. Not out of any malice, of course, but out of that mischief that existed between younger brothers and their elders, still remaining even decades after boyhood. Regardless of the outcome, though, Fitz expected an entertaining duel. After all, both Selwyn and Faustus were incredibly skillful, with years of experience under their respective belts.

Though all involved wizards, and indeed the audience at this point, knew the rules of the tournament, Fitzroy Prewett reviewed them nonetheless, hamming it up with more flourish than necessary.

"Selwyn," he announced, "you're up!"

Trystan felt a little guilty about his previous duel, but was it really his fault that his opponent hadn't been up to scratch? Now here was some worthy competition; a real challenge to make things fun. Trystan grinned as he inclined his head towards Prewett, and then attempted to conjure a screeching cloud of rooks to swarm the other man.

Dear god he was being judged by his brother. . Faustus fought rolling his eyes as Fitz read the rules they all knew by heart by now. Of course Fitz would add more panache to this round.

With a cursory bow to Selwyn, Faustus waited his turn then jerked his wand downwards to hopefully open a (small) cavern below Selwyn to throw him off guard.

Birds. So many birds.

They were immensely preferable to garden gnomes, of course, but what was generally just sort of there became slightly terrifying with their ire focused upon you; Fitz did not envy his brother in the slightest.

He awarded the first point to Selwyn, and indicated for Faustus to cast next.

That certainly could have gone better but at least it wasn't a large horse, Faustus told himself as he recovered. Sighing, he readied himself for the next pass and nodded to both Selwyn and his brother (if not a bit ruefully to the latter).

For his turn he looked to the chandelier above them for aid; taking some inspiration from his opponent, Faustus sent the thousands of tiny crystals in a conical formation towards Selwyn to swarm him.

Was he half-expecting Prewett to drop the whole chandelier on him? He hadn't not been, but a choreographed formation was a nicer flourish – Trystan hastily cast a disillusionment charm on himself, so that the crystals hopefully would not be able to surround him.

Rough luck for Faustus, Fitz thought to himself with a hint of glee. And Faustus, the head auror! Had his brother been just a hair faster, he might have made a comeback, but alas—

"Mr. Selwyn will proceed to the final round of the tournament!"
