Mr. Ezra Applegate vs. Mr. Faustus Prewett
#1
27th April, 1894 — Hogsmeade Memorial Assembly Rooms, Duelling tournament
Tyb hadn't seen either man duel in the previous round, but he fancied most people would have some qualms going up against the Head Auror, even in fun. Best give the other fellow – an Unspeakable, perhaps he'd do alright? – a chance at starting things off well for himself. “Mr. Applegate, whenever you're ready.”

Technically Ezra had withdrawn himself from the Auror Training Programme, not been dropped — but that didn't mean he had any illusions about his chances here. As he fully expected this to be his final duel of the day, he decided he ought to at least choose one of the flashier spells he knew to give a good show. After observing the opening pleasantries, he cast an area-of-effect spell which aimed to see the ground below the Head Aurors' feet open up and swallow him — or at least, that was what it would look and feel like, if successful.

Applegate had withdrawn from training progamme, but Faustus had heard enough from the others to know that he wasn’t a complete fool. Clearly that was the case given he’d survived the first round of duels.

Nodding respectfully to Applegate, Faustus proceeded to cast his rebuke. The elements were on his side the last time. Hopefully they would look favorably upon him for this round too. If all went according to plan, Applegate’s focus would be largely hindered due to the fact that he was encased in a block of ice.

There was something happening at Prewett's feet, but the illusion shrivelled away almost immediately as Applegate disappeared into his block of ice, still posed mid-cast.

Tybalt hurriedly saw him thawed out before he could catch hypothermia. "Mr. Prewett takes the first round and may cast next."
Ezra Applegate: 5| Faustus Prewett: 10.5

Satisfied with this first round, Faustus pointed his wand at Applegate's feet this time, hoping to encase him in a circling whirlwind of fire that would obstruct his view.
