Longtime Bachelors (Finally) Off The Market
Written by Belvina Babble

Lionel Lupin
Having not yet wed by the age of forty and despite seeming quite the catch, many have wondered if Mister Lupin was single by choice. He was once reported to be considering an engagement to Miss Margaret Rawlinson. This was not to be as the young lady was murdered by a vampire. Had the heartbreak rendered him unable to continue seeking a bride for so long? Or was he after other sorts of company? Whatever the case was, he is now married to the former Miss Cecilia Bulstrode. Only time will tell how this marriage of Mister Lupin and his rather young bride will turn out.

George Twinkleberry
Most had written Mister George Twinkleberry off as being a confirmed bachelor with no thoughts of marriage several years ago. For many years, he lived with his business partner, also a longtime confirmed bachelor. A little unusual for two men of wealth and of their age but a majority of society had long known that they enjoy a close friendship. At the age of 69, however, both men seem to have moved into their own residences. George Twinkleberry further surprised society by announcing his engagement to a young debutante named Dorothy Worthington.

Quincey Honeyduke
Not quite the age of a confirmed bachelor, Mister Honeyduke is just a couple of years away from being considered as such. He was linked romantically to a couple of young ladies in the past but nothing serious seems to have come from those romantic entanglements. Many had begun to wonder just what sort of woman it might take to get Mister Honeyduke to the altar. Friends of the women he was briefly involved with say he might have needed to be lured there with sweets as he would be unlikely to come to the idea himself. It seems Miss Dahlia Potts has found success where other women had failed - the engagement of the pair was announced in April of 1893.

Egbert Crabapple
Famous for being cantankerous, it likely came as no surprise to most that Mister Egbert Crabapple had remained a bachelor despite nearing fifty. The man seemed quite content to stay in his own company, rarely venturing out to society events. Thus, it surprised many when he began courting and swiftly became engaged to a young woman by the name of Aelia Olwen. This young woman is known for having a bright, sunny personality which serves as a huge contrast to Mister Crabapples reputation for being gloomy and cranky. It is also said to be a love match which seems to be the fashion for most marriages in recent times.

Elias Grimstone
While the youngest on our list and certainly not yet of an age that being unmarried is all too unreasonable, many had anticipated when Mister Grimstone might begin to court. A working class man, he rose in class and status thanks to his success in the broommaking world. This feat alone made him marriageable to those young women of less wealth.

However, he was once rumoured to have been romantically entangled with a woman far beyond his reach. This time around, it seems that he has stayed within his means and begun courting Miss Daffodil Potts, making her the second Potts lady to have ensnared a long time bachelor. Once he is safely married, parents of those more rebellious upper class ladies may breathe a little easier.
