Did You Know?
During the Victorian era, knitting became a staple of a well-bred woman. Queen Victoria is even reported to have been a fan of knitting herself. It was during this time that knitting wasn’t just restricted to plain yarn fabrics, but changed to involve bead and lace knitting. — Fallin

Feature Me In Witch Weekly!
#1
Feature me!
Generally speaking, Wenches will peruse threads and use them for scandal fodder if they meet certain criteria. If your character is noteworthy, the thread takes place at least partially in a public area, and there could be reason for speculation, you might find yourself featured! The nature of the gossip may or may not have any basis in truth. Rumors started by Witch Weekly do not affect your character's reputation, but may affect how they interact with other characters depending on who reads the magazine!

If you would specifically like your character(s) to not be mentioned by name, you may add them to our blacklist. Even if your character is on the list, we reserve the right to publish articles about them with the stipulation that they will not be mentioned by name, but referred to with a descriptive moniker. You may also add your characters to the blacklist with only topical restrictions, should you desire.

If you would like to request coverage of your character or event, contact Breeat least two weeks in advance. Subject to article availability. You can also subtly improve your chances of being mentioned by using this thread to tell us what your characters are up to!

Advertisements!
In order to have your shops, businesses, or services featured in the advertisements section, please add them to this list.

Ask Harmony Aidsworth!
Any character can write in to Harmony Aidsworth, for any sort of problem you have! Harmony will answer questions about your love life, give advice for how to deal with difficult friends and relatives, or even give you some tips on how to get that persistent stain out of your favorite skirt.

To have your character's letter featured in an article of Witch Weekly, PM @Edric Umbridge with your letter only; Harmony's reply will be written by our staff! Your letter will be published with a moniker; you can include the one you want to use or leave it off and we'll assign one. You can feel free to put these letters in the Letters & Journals forum, but in order to be included they must be PM'd to Bree. Please allow at least a week between the date you sent it in and the date you'd like it to appear--e.g., if you sent in a letter on Friday, it might not appear until the following Sunday's issue.

Letters From Our Readers!
As above, but without the advice element. Depending on the content of your letter, it may be published as-is, or there may be a magazine staff written response published as well.

Lonely Hearts!
Much like sending in letters or advice, have a character submit an anonymous personal ad to Witch Weekly for the Lonely Hearts column or respond to one posted in a previous issue. If unsure, refer to an old Lonely Hearts article for ideas on how and what to write or do a little research into Lonely Hearts columns in the 1800's for inspiration. PM your Lonely Hearts submissions to @Ursula Black and get creative! Bonus points if you generate plots from this.

Lonely Heart submissions will run in 1-3 consecutive articles, or until a response is generated.

Missed Connections!
These are very similar to 'Lonely Hearts' in theme, but differ in format. These are self-contained stories describing an interaction your character (or an NPC) had either at a ball, in the street, in a shop, or really anywhere at all. If you didn't catch their name, later forgot it, or lost their card, write in a brief story describing how you met and ask them to send a response. These are formatted a bit like the Missed Connections on Craigslist if you need a reference!

PM your Missed Connections submissions to @Edric Umbridge and allow at least one week before they appear in the magazine! Letters will be published with an epithet for both the writer and the 'connection,' (ie., 'Shy Suitor seeks Buxom Blonde') and you can either provide the names yourself or let us come up with them.

Heard Around Town
Occasionally, we'll publish a selection of gossip 'heard around town;' this is essentially like the Rumor Mill, but more outlandish and generally rather baseless. You can send potential 'overheard rumors' to @Edric Umbridge. These rumors can include characters that are not your own, but publishing is at Wench discretion and they may be edited/made more anonymous before being published. Rumors in Witch Weekly do not affect reputation. We typically only run one of these types of articles per month at most, so if we do decide to publish your rumor with others it may be several weeks later.

We will be running a Lonely Hearts collection on Sunday, September 9th. If you would like to contribute, read the guidelines above and send your entries to @Ursula Black no later than midnight, Thursday, September 6th.

We have updated our advertisers database! If your characters (or their NPC family members) own a shop or business, or offer goods or services for sale, and might advertise in Witch Weekly, please add them to the list! The more advertisement ideas you can throw up, the more likely they are to come up in an advertisement, so be creative!

Please keep in mind: Advertisements do cost money, so the business in question would have to have some of that to allot to advertising; a startup run by a WC citizen is probably not going to take out adverts in a fancy magazine.

We'll be running a Lonely Hearts feature on Sunday February 3rd! If you'd like to contribute, please PM @Ursula Black by no later than midnight on January 31st!

Casual reminder to use the XOXO, Gossip Girl thread if you want to be featured in upcoming issues but (1) your threads haven't reached the climactic, gossipy part, or (2) something notable is happening but you don't plan on/haven't gotten around to posting a thread about it by the time it should be known IC! We want to cover as many IC events as possible, but it definitely helps to know who's attending and what they're doing there ;)

Also, some of you have won Witch Weekly coverage in recent contests! Don't forget about those, and remember to give us your requests at least two weeks before the publish date!

We will be running a Missed Connections collection on Sunday, April 26th. If you would like to contribute, read the guidelines above and send your entries to @Ophelia Devine no later than midnight, Thursday, April 23rd.

How do you write a Missed Connection? You can either base one off of an existing or recently completed thread where names were not exchanged, or make up an interaction. Has your debutante always had a crush on some suave bachelor? Write in with a missed connection and ask him to formally introduce himself. Or maybe your girl is tired of her friends saying she's shy, prudish, or boring, and wants to forge a Missed Connection from an imaginary beau to give them something else to talk about!

Unlike Lonely Hearts, Missed Connections are not exclusively romantic. Use them for friend!hurling and just getting more information about an interesting interaction, as well!
