U/MCAB | REP 6+ | LADIES' NIGHT

What: An Evening of Amusement
Who: Ophelia hosting for married society women in good standing. Widows can come if they have a reputation for being particularly interesting or entertaining, but if you're still mourning your husband this isn't really your thing.
Cost: No, but attendees should come with pocket money
Where: Devine Estate, Wellingtonshire
Why: Ophelia is bored and hoping to gather some interesting gossip by plying the socialites of the wizarding world with a lot of booze.
When: February 6th

There are two main sources of entertainment for the evening. First, there are a collection of divination-related tables where women can procure crystal ball readings, palm readings, or tarot readings for themselves or for their children; Ophelia is paying the diviners for the evening but tips are expected/appreciated for services (and may influence the favorability of your reading). Second, the tables in the middle of the room are arrayed with various card and dice games that ladies can play (moderate gambling is expected). There is a ton of alcohol available and the event is very well-staffed, ostensibly so that the guests are always lavishly taken care of. In reality, Ophelia wanted ears everywhere and has a monetary reward reserved for the servant who brings her the most interesting piece of gossip from the evening.

(If you have an applicable servant-type, feel free to say they were hired on for the evening and post them at this event!)

U/MCAB | REP 4+ | PERFORMANCE

What: Sonata #7 Orchestral Debut
Who: Anyone who wants a ticket, honestly. We're really not picky if you can pay.
Cost: Yes; gallery seats are affordable for UC and accessible to MC if they're splurging on this; floor seating is affordable for MC and accessible to WC if they really want.
Where: de Montfault Theatre (High Street, Hogsmeade)
Why: because it gives me an excuse to let Ford get caught staring at a male contortionist
When: 12 February

Four hours of orchestrations by a popular young composer* will culminate in the musical debut of his new piece, Sonata #7. During the entire performance the stage will be shared with a collection of dancers, acrobats, and contortionists who will provide visual stimulation. Guests can be seated in either the gallery (primarily UC) or the floor (primarily MC) and can mingle freely in the lobby where drink and light food will be available. The general idea is that people will mostly start in the lobby and gradually take their seats at some point through the performance until they are all seated for the big finale, but people can also move freely from the lobby to either set of seats as they please.

There are also plenty of opportunities to sneak away to a more private area, but nothing is too private in a theater...

*if you want this to be your character, let me know!

UCAB | REP 7+ | Ball

What: The Birthday and Engagement of one Liliana Selwyn
Who: Hosted by the mother of her beau. The UC citizens of society are invited.
Cost: N/A
Where: Hogsmeade Memorial Ballroom
Why: Liliana has aged and shall get engaged as a birthday present
When: February 14th, 1891

Enchanted doves glide through the air - though do not cause a mess - as they pass by the dancers with grace.

Roses and thornless vines cover the walls and accent the tables, though each guest smells something akin to their own personal amortentia - do not be alarmed as it will not cause amortentia's affects, one's actions are their own.

Statues of Venus and Cupid have been strategically placed throughout the room, giving compliments and advice on love - though if you seem to be the lonely, desperate sort the statues may make comments akin to what one would find in a Witch Weekly article.

Food has been themed to match standards of love throughout the - Westernized portion of the - world (think romantic date in Italy or some other Romance country).

U/MCAB | REP 6+ | CHARITY EVENT

What: Courtly Love Inspired Charity Garden Party
Who: Hosted by Marianne and some other society women. Aimed at UC and MC folks.
Cost: See below
Where: Mrs. Miriam Wildsmith's country estate in Southampton. Appropriate weather charms were done so there's good weather in the premises of the event.
Why: To raise money for charity and have a bit of fun pretending to be knights and ladies in the middle ages.
When: February 14th, 1891. Afternoon till midnight.

An afternoon party inspired by the notion of courtly love. In the middle ages, knights would have to prove their love to their ladies by doing tasks such as slaying dragons and sacking Constantinople. The 'knights' attending this event won't have to go to such lengths, but they'll have to prove how knightly they are in certain ways:
  • Make donations for the various charities being sponsored by this event.
  • Participate in a dueling competition on boomsticks, inspired by jousting, where whatever is raised in bets will go to charity.
  • Display their skill and bravery in handling boggarts, because they couldn't get an actual dragon or dementor for this. Ladies can then award them with roses that are quite pricey, but the earnings will go to charity.

MCAB | REP 5+ | LUNCHEON

What: Sunday Luncheon
Who: Mrs. Firth, recently returned from her honeymoon, hosting her first event for her Hogwarts friends (MC women primarily aged 20 - 24), hopefully chaperoned by their eligible older brothers, and friends of her husband (MC gentlemen primarily aged 25 - 35ish).
Cost: N/A
Where: Firth Home, Bartonburg
Why: Hostessing, matchmaking, Valentine's Day, e.t.c
When: 7 February

The recently wedded Mrs. Firth simply can't wait to showcase her hostessing (and matchmaking!) skills with a little help from the latest Witch Weekly.

Tea and biscuits will be served on arrival, then guests will be seated at tables of 6-8 for each of several formal courses (soup, fish, entree, cheese, fruit); between each course there is a conversational break where they are free to stay seated or to mingle throughout the room. The biscuits have been laced with Witch's Weekly's revealing potion: if your character eats one, their cheeks will glow pink when looking at someone they are attracted to. A few of the guests close to the hostess are in on the scheme, so your character might hear a rumor about the cause of the pink-cheek situation, or they might be in the dark.

UCPB | REP 6+ | Dinner

What: Cupid is Dead Murder Mystery Dinner

Who: Mrs B Travers-Rowle is hosting and will be inviting any unmarried society pureblood, widow/ers with children are not invited.
Cost: N/A
Where: Her London Home
Why: She feels like it. It's a veiled attempt at eugenics
When: 21st February

Mrs B Travers-Rowle, a socialite with more than a little bit of purists views is hosting a murder mystery dinner for upper class (and upper middle class) purebloods. Too many purebloods getting engaged to non-purebloods, not enough good social marriages, the general degradation of the fabric of magical society and decisive action needs to be taken. For the sake of appearances 2 halfblood will be invited but seated together and in the worst place -lip service to not being a bigot

It will be lavish, and perhaps a bit overlong at 8, very rich and heavy courses.

Throughout dinner there will be a house-elf, dressed as cupid, little wings, cloth nappy and all, laying out as though dead in the middle of the table (because that screams both romance and fine dining like dead help). The decor will otherwise be a confusing mixture of simpering valentines aesthetic and crimescene.

Attendees will have packets of information, puzzles boxes and other items to solve with those around them to try and determine who at the dinner is 'cupids' killer. The aim is for maximum interactions between the men and women.
