What: Debut of Iphigenia Adebayo
Who: Hosted by the Adebayos; invited are anyone UC, human, and of good reputation.
Cost:
Where: Skyfall, the family's Cambridgeshire country home.
Why: Bby is debuting and the family is flash enough that they're not cool with "just" the Hogwarts debut.
When: Wednesday, June 5th

A standard ball with a couple of embelishments:
  • Held entirely outside, with weather charms in place to manage the temperature and to keep the sky clear so that guests can see the stars
  • The family's observatory will be available for guest access
  • Among traditional ball fare, guests will be able to sample some Nigerian cuisine.
And of course, Genia will make her debut and be the star of the show. Hopefully. Unless someone rudely upstages her.

ACAB | ANY REP | TRAVELLING EXHIBIT

What: The Bone Menagerie
Who: Some sort of scientific organization hosts the event, travelling around the world, for all to see!
Cost: 2s to enter—see below for optional expenses.
Where: A cordoned off section of Padmore Park
Why: Fun?
When: Wednesday, June 12th to Sunday, June 16th

You've been to Podmore's and the Sanditon, but you've never seen a menagerie like this before: instead of animals in their traditional form, the Bone Menargerie hosts a myriad of magical and nonmagical creatures as living skeletons. It's morbidly fascinating, and it's open to the public! Because these creatures are dead, visitors can actually enter the pens and get up close and personal with the living skeletons. Included are...

  • The Domestic pen, which is essentially just farm animals
  • The New World pen, playing host to a bear, a pair of bison, a bald eagle, a moose, and a single rabbit that likes to hide in the bushes, so may be difficult to find.
  • The Africa pen, playing host to a trio of hyenas, a mother-and-calf elephant pair, a giraffe, and a cheetah.
  • The Australia pen, playing host to a handful of kangaroos, some emu, and a taipan
  • The Oddities pen, playing host to an armadillo, capybara, anteater, and a tarsier
  • The Water's Edge pen, playing host to turtles, a hippopotomus, a couple of caimens, and if you keep your eyes peeled, you might catch a couple of frogs.
  • For an extra sickle guests may descend into an underground cavern that plays host to magical beasts, including a dragon, a unicorn, an erumpant, and an incomplete (and thus, not animated) basilisk skeleton. This cavern will, of course, be completely filled in when the event leaves.
  • For a galleon, guests may enter a raffle to win a living skeletal owl.

The spells in place are delicate—removing a single bone causes the whole creature to collapse—and as such rather intimidating looking wizards are on site for the purposes of security.

ACAB | ANY REP | LECTURE

What: Under our Skin: A Medical Lecture
Who: Some sort of scientific organization hosts the event, travelling around the world, for all to see!

Where: Skull & Scalpel Club Lecture Hall, London
Why: Education!
When: Evening of Thursday, June 13th

The same organization putting on the bone menagerie has a second, rather more disquieting event: a lecture for medical professionals on the human body. Though the specimens are not living (that would be too much, surely!), these Body world's style specimens will be used for a discussion on the human body itself, as well as methods of preserving tissue and the importance of continued research into the above.

For those who maintain an appetite, refreshments will be offered in the club afterwards.

ACAB | REP ANY | SAILING LESSONS

What: Sailing Lessons at the Sanditon
Who: Alfred teaches them
Cost: Yes; generally accessible to the types of families where girls would debut rather than work (mid-upper MC & UC). If you're staying at the Sanditon you can bundle them in with your lodgings for a discount.
Where: Sanditon Resort
Why: Sailing <3
When: Weekly in June and early July, see below.

Group lessons are taught weekly over a period of six weeks and broken into the following groups: children (ages 8-14), novice; children, experienced; young ladies (ages 15-26), novice; young ladies, experienced. The only requirement for being "experienced" is having taken sailing lessons at the Sanditon previously- you don't have to actually be any good.

The boats themselves and all necessary equipment is provided; all students have to do is arrive in appropriate attire. Knowing how to swim is not required. Lessons stick to within the bounds of the Sanditon's weather charms where the sun is always shining and the breeze is always mild.

Lady's lessons occur on Tuesday afternoons (novice first, then experienced) from June 4th - July 9th. Ladies are encouraged to take lunch at the Sanditon beforehand or stay for tea afterwards, to socialize.

Children's lessons occur on Wednesday afternoons, novice first then experienced, from June 5th - July 10th.

Married women, young men, etc who wish to take lessons are more than welcome to do so but they must form their own group (anywhere from two to ten people). The schedule is then fit to their needs, so long as it doesn't conflict with the existing classes. A group of octogenarians usually fit a season of sailing lessons into a single week at some point in the summer.

Alfred is also available for private lessons and manages renting sailboats to Sanditon patrons any time the resort is open. (If you're getting private lessons and he judges you are unlikely to kill him or yourself while sailing, he may let you take a boat outside of the weather charms).

ACAB | ANY REP | REGATTA & EVENTS

What: Sandition Regatta
Who: There is something for everyone!
Cost: 2k for non-guest access to the area during the event. Additional costs may be incured for entering competitions, food, accomodations, etc.
Where: Sanditon Resort, Sussex
Why: Boats?
When: 30th June to 6th July

The event will consist, first and foremost, of four boat races:

  • The Sanditon Cup, sponsored by [Magical Steamship Company], which is essentially rich people riding small, magical, self-sailing yachts around the British mainland. They will set sail on the 30th, and are expected to get back on the 5th or 6th #BecauseMagic. The prize is 10G and a solid gold ship in a bottle by way of tropy. The weather in the bottle reflects the weather outside wherever the bottle is, which is nice. Boats provided.
  • The Maelstrom Medal, in which small, non-magical yachts sail a set course in the waters near the resort. Experienced sailors required, though individuals might hire a crew and steal their glory. This takes place on the 1st of July, with participants setting off after breakfast and returning before dinner. The prize is 5G, and a medal. Participants must own boats.
  • The Ladies Boating Trophy, in which pairs of ladies (unmarried, 15-30) compete in a similar course with small dinghies. Participants should have some sailing experience, though all boats will be spelled to prevent tipping over. It takes place on the 2nd. The prize is 5G and a small trophy. Boats provided.
  • The Young Mariners Cup which is similar to the Ladies Boating Trophy except it's open to both sexes, aged 7-17, and the boats are not spelled to avoid tipping over. It takes place on the 3rd. The prize is 5G and a small trophy. Boats provided.

Not sailing? No problem! There will be plenty to keep you busy!

Large mirrors have been set up in strateigic locations throughout the resort allowing patrons to watch the races from the comfort of dry land. In addition to all of the resort’s usual offerings, they’ll be boasting…

  • An evening performance of The Tempest on the beach on the 4th (free to all visitors!)
  • A beach sendoff picnic on the 30th for those taking part in the Sanditon Cup (anyone can attend)
  • A ball on the 5th (MC/UC)
  • An awards ceremony for all the winners on the afternoon of the 6th
  • A yacht raffle running throughout (5G per ticket). Anyone with rooms booked automatically gets one entry. Winner of said yacht will be announced during the awards ceremony!
  • “Cards & Cocktails” every night after dinner for MC and UC aged 17+.

A master plottage thread for all competitions will be available sometime in June.

ACABish | REP 4+| BALL

Invited are:
— All ministry employees and their immediate families
— Hospital Head and immediate family
— Hospital department heads, +1

See Below | REP 7+ | Ball

What: Annual Evergardens Solstice Ball
Who: Hosted by Evergardens: Open ACAB for the blooming of the Solaria Titanium
UC/MCAB for the ball afterwards
Cost: Regular entry for the flower's bloom, then by donation for the ball
Where: Evergardens Magical Greenhouse in London
Why:Come celebrate the Solstice by witnessing the annual bloom of the Solaria Titanium flower; a large and rare flower that only blooms during the summer solstice when the sun is at its highest during the day
When: 21 June 1894

Come to Evergardens to celebrate the Summer Solstice! An all day affair, the Solstice begins in the mid-morning to early afternoon, providing a variety of different lawn activities inside including croquet, tennis and even boating around the various water features. These all lead up to the main event of the day which is the blooming of the Solaria Titanium:

The Solaria Titanium is a rare and particularly tricky flower to cultivate; as such, it remains as a rather inconspicuous bud for a majority of the year. Like all plants, it absorbs its energy from the sun and stores it in its petals. As a result of its large size, when it blooms, the petals take on an iridescent quality. They reflect the stored energy in the form of fragments of light projected upon its surroundings. In addition to the visual display, the flower emits a sweet, enigmatic fragrance; the reason for the indescribable scent? It mimics the properties of Amortentia in that each person will smell something different that evokes a particular pleasant memory. This effect lasts until midnight.

The Solstice Ball will commence after the flower blooms, with a magical ballroom floor erected in the center of the greenhouse and a full string quartet with each of the players on their own floating platforms decorated with live foliage and flora. The usual ephemera such as dance cards and refreshments will be provided, as well as plenty of seating around the greenhouse. Guests might notice the flora and fauna of the greenhouse to be particularly vibrant and lively during this time.

U/MCAB | REP 5+ | BIRTHDAY GETAWAY

What: Willa Kensington's 21st Birthday Celebration
Who: Willa is celebrating her birthday with friends
Cost: Room & meals are included but if you want to do ~extra things like the menagerie you can use your pin money
Where: Sanditon Resort
Why: birthday
When: 7-9 June

Willa is turning twenty-one and since her family is both wealthy and loving she wasn't going to do it without fanfare. However as it's her fourth season we decided throwing a ball in her honor would seem gauche. So this is a girls getaway weekend!

They rented out a series of bougie rooms at the Sanditon Resort that are all on the same floor. Willa's older sister and mother are around to chaperone and a few of the invited women may be married so the unmarried ones can come with just themselves and be "covered." Guests arrive Friday evening and depart Sunday afternoon. There are no solid plans throughout the weekend except lots of drinking wine and lounging on the beach and probably staying up until three in the morning cavorting around each other's suites and annoying the other guests in the resort. Around a dozen girls were invited - if we haven't established whether they're friends but you think they could be, just ask me, the answer is probably yes!

ACAB | ANY REP | SUMMER GAME

What: Wizards vs Inferi: A Hogwarts Summer Game
Who: All current students may participate
Cost: Free for all students, incoming First Years and dropouts must acquire legitimate equipment themselves.
Where: Hogsmeade or Magical London. See also: Safe Zones below.
Why: All work and no play makes summer a dull time.
When: June 1 - September 1, 1893 (excepting Tu/Th)

(For those not familiar with the real world game, see Humans vs Zombie)

The annual Wizards vs Inferi game has begun, played by students (officially those 17+, but practically all years may participate) during the summer between terms. An enchanted, white band of cloth, which can be tied around the arm or elsewhere, marks most participating students as the game's Wizards. Their goal is to stay 'alive' and not get hit by a spell.

Some, selected players have a black armband, which marks them as Inferi. Their goal is to 'kill' all the Wizards and turn them to their side, which is done by casting Finite. However, other, more enterprising Inferi may seek something with more flair and use more serious dueling charms to achieve this goal. A successful counter-spell charm, or something more powerful such as Expelliarmus, will turn the Wizard's armband black and mark them as Inferi.

Most of Hogsmeade and Magical London is fair game, however Market Days and indoors are designated as Safe Zones where the game should not be played, lest wandering adult eyes catch sight. Players engage in these places, or confide in adults, at their own risk to discipline or peer pressure consequences.

Wizards win if at least one is still alive by the end of summer. Inferi win if no Wizards remain alive. There are a few dozen chocolate galleons to be dispersed among the winners as prizes.

New to 1894: The enchantment on this year's armbands have demonstrated some instability in proximity to each other. The enchantment likes to switch, turning white into black and black into white. Should this occur during an encounter with an opposing player, you may find yourselves on opposite sides of the game. When roles reverse, perhaps the players should follow.
