You always seem so reserved and courteous at social events but rest assured your facade has not fooled me! I heard what you said about my sister to the gentleman you were speaking with last week at that party, and I've told her every word. I may be new to the social season but if you believe Verity to be a defenseless sort, you are mistaken — she is more clever and witty than you could ever be and if you try to muck around with her prospects again, I am quite sure she could see you ruined!
