Dueling '90: Enoch Rosier vs. Benedict Sterling
#1
January 5th, 1890 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic
Now this was more like it! This was the kind of duel he should be overseeing. Two aurors! This would be as entertaining as Miss Lestrange and Miss Evan's duel was distressing. Going over the rules felt beyond redundant.

"Mr. Rosier, you will be starting things off. When you're ready..." Charles was SO ready to watch this.

Ah, this was more like it! He had no great objection to Sterling in general and the man was a fine auror in Enoch's estimation - when he recalled his own identity at least - so his bow was considerably more courteous than usual and his wand quite a bit quicker as he cast a simple but hopefully effective incarcerous.

Benedict bowed, grinning to Rosier. Aahhhh dueling...his bread and butter! And he was against his co-worker, who by all means was a worthy opponent. Though he loved dueling, there were occasions in the past when Ben had felt like he had to hold back if his opponent perhaps wasn't in a profession where they had to battle dark wizards on a regular basis.

And so, Ben slashed his wand through the air, looking to conjure a statue of a knight that would hopefully take the brunt of the spell thrown at him.

Charles was far more excited by this duel than he would ever admit to. Both spells worked faultlessly - which iften wasn't the case in tournaments - but the incarceration spell smashed through the knight conjured by Sterling and Charles' might have squealed with delight if he had been the type. "The first round goes to Mr. Rosier! Mr. Sterling, you may begin the next."

As soon as he saw the ropes coming toward him, Ben knew it was useless to try and evade the ropes. He grunted as they hit him with full force, but couldn't help laughing with glee. Well cast and well executed!

As he got up, he braced himself before bringing both his arms up in front of him, looking to conjure a sphere of wind around Rosier which would hopefully toss him around in the air (just a little bit) and inhibit him from casting any sort of spell.

Ha! It was definitely more satisfying to take points from a man who at one time had been his superior and luckily Sterling was good enough to take it on the chin. Which gave him a delightful idea and Enoch cast a spell that would make the other man's eyebrows grow to the length of his chin and thus throw off his aim.

The wind spell managed to redirect Mr. Rosier's spell which ended up hitting one of the spectators. Fortunately for them it hadn't been anything too violent but they might not be all that appreciative of their new eyebrows once the surprise wore off. Both spells were competent but he could hardly award the victory to Rosier when it hadn't hit his opponent. "A point to Mr. Sterling! Mr. Rosier, please start the deciding round." If only his next duel was likely to be this entertaining.

Enoch's eyes shone with irritation - he liked a fight as well as any auror but better than that he much preferred to win. Swiftly he sent a spell to turn the other man into a cat.

Ben winced as the spell intended for him hit someone in the crowd. Perhaps next time they might cast spell absorption barriers so that be avoided; that person didn't look too happy after they realized what was happening.

Turning his attention back to the match, he pointed his wand, hoping to transport the chandelier above them to in front of him as a physical object to take the brunt of whatever spell Rosier had cast at him. If Ben knew Rosier, he knew he didn't look happy about that last round. Best try and avoid whatever spell was sent his way.

There was a split second where everything happened at once. The chandelier suddenly reappeared between the two aurors at the precise moment that Mr. Sterling vanished. In the place where he had stood there was a cat, and rolling away from it was Mr. Sterling's wand. After restoring Mr. Sterling to his natural state, Charles announced the winner, not that anyone would be left guessing still. "Mr. Rosier is the victor!"
