Dueling Tournament

If Sterling did not win this bout, Christopher Moony thought with a wry smile, he would never let the other auror live it down. Kit knew enough formidable women—his wife, his sister, Fallon Hatchitt, probably his daughter in a few years—that he was not likely to discount them in this sort of arena simply upon the basis of sex. Benedict Sterling, though, was a much-experienced auror. This Miss Allaway, though extrodinarily tall, did not seem likely to pose much of a challenge.

Once again, Kit relied upon a small notecard as he reviewed the rules of the tournament. Then, he bid Sterling to open the duel.

Ben knew that smile and he had half a mind to curse it right off of Moony’s face. Casting him a glower, he focused on his opponent; a rather tall woman he recognized from Hogsmeade Hospital. After bowing, Ben proceeded to cast a simple stinging hex.

Titania was under no illusions, she was facing a man with martial training. Then again, this annual outing wasn't a matter of victory - at least not for Titania. This was a benchmark of reflexes and intuition: how would she respond under threat? That thought experiment had her continuing to register for such events; Titania would do anything to learn.

With a respectful curtsey, Titania resolved to face any spell that came her way. If nothing else, this was a test of resilience. Softening her focus and centering the wizard before her, Titania raised a shield as quickly as possible.

Surprising no one of sense—Kit doubted anyone would have even considered taking bets on this particular bout—the auror's stinging hex hit the witch before she could even utter the final syllable of protego. After briefly ensuring the healer was alright to continue (an interesteing role reversal), Kit bid her to begin the next round of the duel.
