Lonely Hearts Response: Adventure Awaits!

To: "Adventurous Fellow"

It has been long since I've seen such a captivating advertisement in Witch Weekly, and the first time I've ever thought to respond to one myself! To see the world has always been a desire of mine, but unfortunately not one that I've ever been able to fulfill!

I have always considered myself to have a pretty face—fair skin, green eyes, and a wide, happy smile! I have a tender, caring heart and a love of entertainment ranging from effortless tabletop games to dazzling evenings at the opera.

To learn more about you would be my greatest delight!

Sincerely,
Miss H.S.

Mister Lorcan Byrne,

Witch Weekly is pleased to inform you that your recent submission to our Lonely Hearts article has generated a response. Witch Weekly is devoted to providing help to all of our readers, no matter what their social disadvantages, and we are delighted to provide this service to the lovelorn in our magical community. We hope that you will be able to create a happy ending with our help, instead of being doomed to a tragically lonely life.

Please see the enclosed letter and advise us whether you will need your advertisement repeated in further issues of our magazine.

Dear Miss H. S.,

Well, I am ever so pleased to take that hard-won credit for writing such a captivating advertisement, though I suppose my real reward is that it captured your attention.

You oughtn't worry about seeing the whole world, though; it is my philosophy to live every day as an adventure, no matter where you are! In keeping with that motto, I admit to being ever more curious about you, and would brilliantly enjoy learning about you face-to-face (and to be proved right that you are just as charming as you sound!) on an adventure of our own. Perhaps I might entice you to the Irvingly Casino for a spot of fun and games?

Yours,
Adventurous Fellow

To "Adventurous Fellow":

It would be most improper to agree to meet a stranger (especially a gentleman!) on the basis of a single letter, but I must admit that a trip to the casino would certainly bring a well-needed break from the bustle of the season! Before such a possibility could come to fruition, I must at least know your name (and a few identifying features, if I may be so bold to ask)!

Sincerely,
Miss H.S.

Dear Miss H. S.,

You're quite right on both counts. I should hate to lose the position of gentleman in a young lady's eyes by my keenness! And I should also hate for you to suffer through the season without the break you obviously deserve.

But certainly - it'd be a flawed plan of mine if we were unable to find each other! I am tall - notably tall, I suppose - athletic of build and fair haired, and while I had best leave others to judge my looks as they deserve, I hope there is nothing in them to trouble you. Have you a favourite colour? I would be happy to wear a token of it if we were to meet.

(You haven't told me your name either, but we may as well save those for when we exchange our introductions, and then perhaps even propriety will seem a little like an adventure!)

Yours,
A. F.

Well I have auburn hair, a petite stature, and a bright smile. Might you wear a sunflower clip? I so do enjoy sunflowers!

Would a meeting on the tenth of June suffice?

Sincerely,
Miss H.S.

Dear Miss H. S.,
I don’t know whether you have caught the news in this morning’s paper, but the fog in Irvingly is apparently having adverse effects on magic as well as vision, and I am afraid to admit it may have scuppered our plans for the time being.

Nonetheless, I hope you haven’t been caught up in it! Either way, I shall look forward to meeting you one - brighter - day, and shall be sure to look out a sunflower token in the meantime.

Yours,
A. F.
