Sage was pleased to have made it this far. The other man was several years older than him though and presumably a lot more experienced. Even so, he cast the jelly fingers jinx.

Ewart bowed as deeply as his back would allow, and then cast a shield charm in return. (The magical shield was also rainbow in glow, because those were the sort of charm innovations society desperately required.)

For the young wizard's sake, Fitz hoped Macnair was not a sore loser—the bubble in which he found himself was startlingly impenetrable, prompting Macnair's stunning spell to hit its caster, rather than the intended target.

Almost lazily, Fitz dispelled the effects of the round before announcing, "Mr. Fraser is our clear winner, and will continue to progress in this tournament. Well done!"
