The schoolteacher only raised vague recollections in Enoch but Mrs Macnair was a familiar sight and an extremely welcome one and thus it was that he read out the rules without once glancing at the educator.

"Mrs Macnair, do your worst." He said, gesturing for her to begin.

Mariana shot a brief, quizzical towards Mr. Rosier; his choice of words seemed incongruous next to the crisp formality of the other moderators she'd had thus far. She gave it no further thought, however, instead choosing to focus upon her opponent. If she wasn't mistaken her opponent was a professor, although not any of the main wand-based subjects and so she was not anticipating an overly arduous match.

That didn't mean she was going to be lazy though. Mariana took aim and cast. If all went to plan a large plant would burst up from the floor and engulf the other witch in vines in a similar sort of fashion to Devil's Snare but with less squeezing.

Apparently, the event organizers preferred moderators that were conventionally attractive, but wholly underwhelming and recruited accordingly. The men of Slytherin's 1878 class fit the bill perfectly, as Angel would attest from experience. If her twin sauntered out to referee, Angelica would no longer be surprised.

An unladylike scoff greeted Rosier's odd permission to commence, but Angelica was ready and focused on her opponent. Angel cast a shield variant, intending to incase herself in a shield that set fire on contact. Might as well liven up the defensive position.

Well, that had been rather unexpected. Mrs Macnair cast well but the Professor was faster and her shield was quite magnificent to behold. Enoch eyed her speculatively - was she familiar to him? - and decided that the match would prove more interesting than he could have possibly imagined.

"First points to Professor Vorona who may begin the next round."

Many things about Angelica had changed in her life, but her delight in triumph was not one of them. She still knew better than to be smug, though, she had a duel to win.

Focusing her energy on the ground beneath her opponent, Angel triggered what should be a localized earthquake. Why not shake things up?

While it wasn't reflected in her face, Mariana was displeased. She didn't consider herself a sore loser but she did have her pride. Feeling prepared to outpace her opponent for sure this time, Mariana tried to transfigure the other woman's wand into a rattle snake before she could launch her attack.

The ground shook and Mrs Macnair's spell went wide of the mark, transfiguring a nearby chair into a really rather beautiful rattlesnake. Enoch watched it slither away with a sigh.

"Professor Vorona takes the duel."
