Ophelia could do little more than blink at his comment. She heard the words, but the meaning of them failed to really sink in. Was he, perhaps, making some sort of joke? If so, she wasn't really following along, but that wouldn't be the first time in her life she had missed the intention behind someone's joke.

"Don't be silly," she responded distantly. "What do you mean by that, anyway?"
