A potioneer versus a society wife; the Lestranges could be, for lack of a better word, feisty, but Ross had more confidence in Mrs. Hill than in Mrs. Lestrange.

"Mrs. Hill to begin," Ross announced, having already read through the rules.

Odina couldn't help but wrinkle her nose at the sour-looking woman she was squaring off against. She looked like every other petty society woman she's had the displeasure of meeting, but this one looked like she'd sucked lemons on her way to the floor.

Might as well further ruin her day. Deciding to save the wandless magic, for now, Odina gave her wand a snap, shooting a tide of water the other witch's way, fully intending to wash her away.

It had been Tig's hope that Ellory would participate and she could legitimately duel and subsequently humiliate her. It also would reflect poorly on Ellory if they dueled and it miraculously resulted in a miscarriage, but that was probably what had kept her from signing up in the first place. What a coward. To make matters worse Tatiana was taking part and if Tig didn't do as well or better then the next time she had to see her sister-in-law would be hellish.

For now Tig had to duel - Mrs. Hill, was it? - she didn't recognize her and deduced she must be older than herself but also poorer so the experience probably didn't count for much. Rather than cast a shield charm which would be boring, Tig tried to conjure a large stone wall to take the brunt of whatever spell Mrs. Hill had chosen to hurl at her.

Mrs. Lestrange's stone wall was really more of a mud wall, and was easily washed away - along with the witch - by Mrs. Hill's wave. Ross vanished the water on the ground with a flick of his wand; he knew better than to do magic near rich women's gowns, though, and so Mrs. Lestrange was rather on her own in terms of 'not being wet.'

"Mrs. Lestrange may begin the next round when ready," Ross announced.

Well now she was in a wonderful mood. Tig didn't bother drying herself - it could wait until she'd won. She tucked a damp strand of hair behind her ear and out of her face. Without a moment of further hesitation, she tried to transfigure Mrs. Hill into a monkfish which was the ugliest fish she could think of. If Mrs. Hill just so happened to suffocate before anyone turned her back... Well what a tragedy that wouldn't be.

Odina didn't bother to hide her amusement at the wet witch across from her. If she'd read the woman with any amount of accuracy, Dina's amusement at the other witch's disarray would only vex her further. Good.

Throwing her energy into a shielding spell, she attempted to reflect the spell back at Mrs. Lestrange. There was something about letting the woman's own magic undo her that was delightful.

Mrs. Lestrange's transfiguration was successful; Mrs. Hill flopped helplessly on the ground for a few seconds before Ross was transfigured her back to normal. "Mrs. Hill will begin our tie-breaker," he announced.

More annoyed than she should be over a bloody competition, Odina felt the familiar itching in her blood just begging her to lash out. Who decided deadly force was out again? Reining it her temper, barely, Odina leaned into the magic she knew best. Lashing out with a shower of icicles, Odina was hoping her opponent caught more than a slight chill.

Sadly Mrs. Hill did not suffocate but she had looked revolting flopping around on the floor as a fish. Whatever she did - or didn't do - next would decide the outcome of the duel and whether she'd have to go home with her tail between her legs or not.

Hoping to outpace her opponent, Tig cast what she intended to be a strong exploding charm several feet in front of her that would hopefully rear-end the other woman and disrupt any spell she might have sent her way.

The exploding charm caused the icicles to scatter, and Ross cast a brief shield charm over the audience to contain both to the field of play. Both women were left ashy from the explosion, and he looked a little annoyed when he patched the floor up with another flick of his wand. Ross announced Mrs. Lestrange the winner.
