My dear “Seeking Second Wife”,

Upon reading your Witch Weekly advertisement, I could not help but feel for your dear daughter. I myself lost a mother quite young, though I do not speak about it often. While I am not at all suited to replace hers, I should like very much to help you find one.

I have a proven track record in this regard. If curious, please do reply.

Sincerely,
I. Valentine

Dear Madam,

I must assume from your manner of writing that you are indeed, a madam, you are correct in your statement. My daughter's needs for a mother definitely surpass my own need of a wife. Had my first wife left me childless, I should have little inclination to seriously consider matrimony again for another five to ten years. However she did not and my daughter is in dire need of a young woman to mother and mold her.

I have pondered the matter extensively and have decided to take the risk that you may be a charlatan. I must warn you however that not just any young woman of one and twenty will do; my first wife was of a regrettable disposition and for the sake of her daughter, her replacement must be virtuous in all respects, genteel, and capable of conducting herself flawlessly in society.

For the sake of allowing you to know a little more of me, I must make it quite clear that I am not the sort of man to read Witch Weekly, nor advertise my personal business about it. Hopefully this mistake may render itself useful all the same.

Sincerely,
C. M.

C.M.,

Few gentleman of any noteworthy standing are such a fellow, and I think it a testament to your daughter's happiness that you would offer yourself in such regard.

Please be reassured that matters of fate are my forte—I have, on the continent, cultivated for myself a reputation for success in finding matches that are more than suitable. Unfortunately, this fog is an inconvenience to say the least, and unless you find yourself located in Irvingly, I am afraid that any such endeavor must wait until it lifts.

Sincerely,
I. Valentine
