History:
childhood
On a cold, early morning of March 11th 1877 She was the youngest child of Lilia and Leeland Shacklebolt .Her father worked in the Ministry, while her mother helped out in her brother’s shop. They were working class, but hard working and close to the earnings of a low middle class.
Most important of all, though, they were full of love. Cami came as a surprise. They thought they’ll have no more children, with the last one being older than their youngest child by 4 years. She was a surprise, but a welcome one.
They lived in London, in a townhouse. They had three bedrooms, a small kitchen and a miniature dining room that dabbled as a living room. There wasn’t much space and many things the children had to share, but the family was full of warmth and love.
The oldest son hhadalrehad graduated from Hogwarts, thanks to his own sheer st, thanks to his intelligence and great gradesmother' and pursued c a career. The second oldest son worked in Leaky Cauldron and lived above t., having dropped out of Hogwarts after his first year. The oldest had even gotten married and had a child on the way. The first boy they were able to send to school without having to give him mostlyused things and ask for scholarships. The more children had gone to school, though, the harder it became. When the eldest graduated Hogwarts and secured a position in the Ministry of Magic, he had passed his wand down to his siblings. He wanted a new one.
Camille never felt like she lacked anything, though. During cold winters, they’d heat the place up by using the fireplace. Their mother would make them warm quilts, their uncle give them warm robes that he couldn’t sell in his shop. They were a happy family.
Camille grew up to be a gentle and kind child, loving stories that her sisters would read her at bedtime. They always read her the muggle fairytales. Her mother had always liked them best. Despite their pureblood status, they’ve never felt they are better than muggles or muggleborns. They always treated everyone with respect, no matter class, gender or blood status.
Little Camille started learning how to sew at a young age. Her mother taught her how to use needle and thread. Though, at her first attempts, she prickled her fingers, she wanted so badly to learn how to saw a dress for her only doll that she didn’t give up. At first, those were the simplest of dresses. She used the fragments of material her mother could no longer use at work to stitch something together. As time came, though, the small dresses got more elaborate. More elaborate than little Cami’s own clothing.
Another things Cami loved were animals. She wasn’t afraid of rats creeping in. She adored the stray cat that wondered into their house when she was 8 years old. It was a tortoise shell, street cat with big, green eyes. It was really dirty when it slipped into their window and at first sight of it, her mother wanted to shoo it away with a broom. Then, Cami’s first sign of magic happened. The broom flew away from her mother’s hand and the cat landed in the girl’s arms. She looked at her with her chocolate colored eyes until Mrs. Shacklebolt relented and told her that if she wants to keep it, she needs to clean him first, check for fleas and feed him and clean after him.
This was a wonderful thing to the girl and she ran to fill the small tub with warm water. She scrubbed the cat clean and it let her. Her mother, in the meantime, went to procure a potion that will kill the possibly existing fleas and protect the cat from catching more. The woman used a little bit on it’s fur, then the girl brushed it out with an old brush of her with coarse hair. Some dead flees indeed fell out and the cat meowed happily.
From there on, the cat, named Josephine, were hardly ever seen apart. They slept together, played together. Cami would save a little beat of her meal to the cat, also that she wouldn’t have to eat scraps or rats. The parents were happy that since Josephine’s arrival no rats or mice tried to get into their house. They didn’t have to lay rat traps.
When the day came that Cami got her Hogwarts letter she read every word. She was afraid she will have to leave her dear Josephine behind. Luckily, the letter said she can bring a cat with herself. Her mother asked if she wouldn’t prefer a younger cat, unsure if it was a good idea to take Josephine away from the house.
Cami cradled little Josephine in her arms and said she’s not going anywhere without her.
Her parents warned her that they can’t coverexpenses not contained by the first year scholarshipof Hogwarts so she’ll have to study hard to get a scholarship. Camille didn’t let that sadden her, though. She wasn’t going to be like her siblings and leave school after the first year.
For her school year, her mother was able to make her new robes. Other than that, she had to wear old dresses, passed down from her sister and use a wand passed down from her cousin. Still, she was happy. This was a beginning of a great new adventure.
Hogwarts
Before the school year had arrived, Cami adjusted all the dresses tto fit her and modernized them as much as she could with materials that her mother and uncle no longer needed. It wasn’t the epitome of fashion and high cry from the upper class girls. It was her own style, though. Her oldest sister, fresh out of Hogwarts, her education covered by a wealthier patron,,, even used a spell changing color so it fits more with Cami’s fondness.
The young girl was excited and looking around the famous Hogwarts as they were lead to the Great Hall. She patiently waited in line, though missing Josephine already. Josephine wasn’t here and wasn’t with her as they made her way from Hogsmeade Station to the school. She would be in her dorm, waiting for her, she was assured, when she was sorted. Finally, she sat on the stoll and waited for the hat to choose. It took a moment. Deliberating between Ravenclaw, for her love of knowledge and curiosity and Hufflepuff, her kindness and hard working nature. Finally, it decided on the latter and so Cami was sorted.
The amount of food on the table amazed her. She’d never seen so many treats in her r entire life. She stuffed herself full, slowly and carefully chewing so that it would make the stomach sure she’d eaten properly.
When she entered the dorm room, she felt the softest bed. Josephine already waiting, jumped on her girl and they snuggled up together.
Soon, Cami found that she loves learning all the new things. Escept flying, at first. Flying terrifies her. She does good in the class, but already knows that Quidditch is NOT something she’ll want to pursue. She’s much more fond of classes such as Charms and Herbology. She also signed up for Art and Choir. She finds Etiquette lessons infinitely fascinating and does her bes t to act like a proper young lady. In fact, soon, when she’s wearing only her robes, she could be mistaken for a girl of much higher standing the way she hold herself.
During the summer between her first and second year, her oldest sister marries a middle class man and moves to Hogsmeade., Bartonburg.
In her second year, Cami decides to one day master all the womanly arts and be the best Etiquette student she can be. She studies hard, to keep her scholarship. Preeviously,, she was among the top students of her house and hopes to continue this.
She still loves her cat dearly and takes great care of her. Friends, though, start to play a bigger role in her life.
During the summer between her second and third year, Cami’s parents decide to sell the apartment in London and get something in Pennyworth, to bee closer to their eldest daughter. Cami’s sother sister, older by four year, like many of her other siblings, didn’t graduate from Hogwarts and sought employment , moving away. The family was smaller now and as they sold the apartment, they could afford a small place in Pennyworth. Two bedrooms with a small living room, kitchen and bathroom. They didn’t buy it, though. They rented it out, but were always on time with the money. They hoped to save up enough to one day buy the place and were putting money away every month.
On her third year, Camille adds care of Magical Creatures, Muggle Studies and Ancient Runes to her schedule. She finds that Care of Magical Creatures is her favorite subject, Herbology coming in second.
Hogsmeade trip, which is exciting. She continues with her scholarship.
As years four approaches, Camille starts to wonder which she’d want to do in her life. Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures are her favoorite subjects, and she’s tempted to either become a magical animal healer in the future or magizzologist. She’s still unsure about which one to pursue in the future, even as her fifth year approaches.
As this is a deciding year of her future, Cami focuses hard on her studies. She doesn’t forget about Josephine, though or other people. She can often be seen tutorin other s and helping them out in the future. By this time, she’s strongly leaning towards animal healer.
Personality:
Cami is very much concerned with being proper. She dislikes it that her hair get in the way and give her so much trouble. She wants to look proper, she acts proper. She’s hard working and determined to do something with her life. She dreams of having her own debutante ball, but she knows she’s got no chance. Her parents can’t afford it. She’ll have to use the one Hogwarts throws and make the best out of it. She doubts any respectable man of middle class would pay interest to her. Her wild curls, in her mind, making it impossible. Doesn’t matter that her family are good, pureblood people. They are working class and she can’t exactly afford a beautiful ball gown to impress a man. She dreams of having her own fairy godmother or a sponsor who’d pay for more than her education. Thus, she studies hard, so that she can find a job that will lift her up from the working class.
Cami is always kind and gentle. Even when faced with adversity, she’s always polite. She cares deeply not to have her true feelings shown. She’ll face them later, when she’s alone. Publicly, she wants to be seen as a good, proper girl. She’s a smart girl, one of the best students in hear Hufflepuff year. She’s always striving for more, though, unsatisfied with what she’s achieved.
Other: She has a tortoise shell cat named Josephine which is very friendly with the girls.
