A quiet summer afternoon in Padmore park was interrupted by the arrival of a fast-paced thunderstorm that ravaged the Black Lake and surrounding neighborhoods on July 4th. The storm moved in quickly, ominous clouds bringing lightning and driving rain in a matter of moments, scattering those enjoying the park for cover as best they could.

There was minor damage to several buildings and homes near the lake. Several injuries were reported and unfortunately one death. Miss Sloane Bixby, 16, of Bartonburg, was flying over the lake when the storm rolled in unexpectedly. Onlookers watched in horror as the young Gryffindor was struck by lightning and fell into the lake. Strong winds created waves that capsized several of the boats, making recovery of the body impossible. The storm receded as soon as it appeared, lasting a mere half an hour.

Miss Bixby was just weeks shy of her 17th birthday and the beginning of her 7th year at Hogwarts where she was a Gryffindor. She played seeker on the house team since her 2nd year. She had a promising professional career ahead of her, following in the footsteps of her father and eldest brother.

The Bixby family is asking for privacy at this time. A headstone will be placed next to her twin brother who passed in infancy. A small private ceremony will be held at Asphodel Cemetery for family and close friends only.
