Hellos!
I have a question on how you guys think the magical-world in the Victorian era culture might be and how it over laps with or defers from the muggle one in the time. Basically in regards to physical disabilities - say someone was in a wheelchair or on crutches, would it be as ostracized in magical society as it tended to be in muggle society (from what I have read at the very least)? I wasn't sure with how the ability to do magic would factor in! Thanks!

I know that the Cane Crew (
Aldous Crouch Barnabas Skeeter and
August Echelon-Arnost) are IC established as being less-desirable because of their leg woes!

I'd say that it depends on the class of the person in question as to how much it impacts their life. So Barney, Aldous, etc. might be slightly less desirable as husbands and such because of their leg woes but I think it's more of a minor defect that maybe knocks them down the totem pole of bangability rather than them being ostracised. Same for anyone UC/MC I reckon: no one will think worse of them (at least not publicly) but everyone sort of goes "isn't it a shame, so handsome too".
I'd say its with the working class that there's the most difference to muggle society tbh. Working class muggles would have relied upon being able-bodied to get work and keep it. A huge number of working class worked in service during this period or did some form of manual labour so if you were disabled (crutches, wheelchair, etc) and couldn't do it oops sorry, you're sacked, enjoy living on the streets or dying a slow miserable death in the workhouse!
In the wizarding world though I'm guessing the working classes would be able to use their magical skills to get the jobs done so they'd still be employable and, if employable, nobody has to slip down the slippery slope of miserable poverty. Yay magic!
So tl;dr if you're disabled you still have a place in wizarding society but people might be less inclined to swipe right.
