Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ

5 Tips For Staying Healthy This Winter!
As skilled as Magical Bugs healers may be, no one particularly wants to pay them a visit especially in the winter months...

1. Stock up on Pepperup Potion
As undesirable as the ear-steaming side-effects of this potion may be, it is ill-advised to avoid taking this useful cure for a headcold. A headcold may seem a rather mild and mundane illness, it is rife in the winter months and if left untreated may lead to much worse maladies.

2. Avoid the sickroom!
If your family or friends are suffering from illnesses avoid them at all costs unless they are on their deathbed. Magical strains of influenza are rife this time of year and often fatal, your ailing friend may be stronger than you!

3. Rest up!
Plenty of rest is a tried and tested method of keeping healthy. Fatigue and overexertion will make avoiding illness near impossible, especially for one predisposed to sickness and frailty.

4. Leave the country
The cold and bitter winters of Britain can be devastating to one's health. It is highly advised by medical professionals to remove oneself from the country altogether and seek warmer climes — Southern Italy, the Mediterranean. A change of air can make all the difference in the world, especially to those residing in London where the quality of air is wretched at best.

However, be wary of over-taxing yourself through travel, plan your journey carefully!

5. Sea bathing
Complete immersion in salt water is proven to enhance the body's natural defenses against sickness. The Sanditon Resort is an ideal location for this. If bathing once does not fully revitalize you, multiple bathings should soon do the trick.
Pepperup Potions are an invaluable asset for surviving winter!Sea bathing has never been more accessible!

How the Halloween Spirit Killed Fashion
Most women preparing for any sort of fancy-dress party have faced the familiar dilemma: to prioritize the costume, or one's ability to move and dance, or the otherall elegance and appeal of the outfit? While for masquerades and other themed parties, most usually keep the latter goal in mind, Halloween costumes this year have taken quite an alarming turn towards the distasteful.

Take, for instance, Mrs. Ophelia Devine. Once held up as a paragon of fashion sense and good taste, Mrs. Devine was seen at a Halloween party last week dressed as a dementor. Even a stylized version of such a horrific being would have been incredibly crass, particularly as rogue dementors have featured in the news recently and several members of society have had negative experiences with them in the past. Adding insult to injury, her costume was decidedly unattractive, with a shapeless, tattered grey cloak and a garish amount of make-up that made her eyes look as though they'd sunk three inches back into her skull! How far the mighty have fallen.

Another example of Halloween costuming taken a step too far is Miss Helga Scamander, who used either charms or make-up (or possibly both?) to give all of her exposed skin a sickly pallor. Miss Scamander might very well have been dead. Come to think of it, this might have been her intention, since there was nothing else about her attire that seemed to play into any sort of cohesive costume idea; her dress simply looked old-fashioned. While it may have been a convincing attempt to portray a corpse, it certainly didn't make her an appealing young lady to strike up a conversation with, or dance with!

Bringing our unpleasantness full circle, we have reports that Jemima Rosier intends to arrive at her mother's Halloween ball with visible physical wounds. We have, at this point, moved so far from good decorum and etiquette that it's hard to tell where we started. A woman of society should strive to bring light and humor to every room; to entertain her guests in all circumstances; to bring a special sparkle to each and every interaction she has. Our current generation of young women seem more interested in shocking their guests to an early grave, or at the very least inducing them to nausea over dinner. The one silver lining is that the Halloween season doesn't last forever, and at least these women are not forcing us to face down their distasteful disguises during the rest of the year — at least, not yet.

Those of us here at Witch Weekly strive to provide you with the latest news of the social scene! Heard Around Town!
Miss Backus is at it again! Trying to act above her proper station. Those borrowed clothes do not fool me. Once a baker's daughter, always a baker's daughter.

Has Miss Mireille Lécuyer seemed even more odd to you lately? Might I say, nervous? With her troublesome reputation - as well as her being a twin and all - I dare say she could be up to something!

I saw Mrs. Ace Lukeson and her cousin - the infamous Miss Annabelle Scrimgeour - chatting earlier this month. Do you think the two are planning to have Miss Scrimgeour elope as well?

Is it just me, or have there been fewer parties for this year's fall holiday's? I've heard that it was due to the many scandals of late. Too much drama for our poor socialites to handle. Who could really blame them for wanting a quiet winter?
