Floo Network Security
#1
Hi, not a pressing question but something that's been lurking in my mind. Is there a way to turn a floo connected fireplace "off" for the night, or when you don't expect visitors for a long period? Like the equivalent of locking your door? Sort of seems like it'd be a very real home invasion/burglary risk if not.

Alternatively, maybe the floo doesn't "lock" but there are common alarm/anti-tresspassing spells people put up around their fireplaces?

I have pondered this many times. I've always wondered is there a way to only allow the people you allow into your house so random groups of people don't just enter your home? And also yes being able to turn the connection off so people don't barge in at certain times.

The conclusion I've always reached is all of these things probably exist? How? ~Magic. Which isn't the most satisfying answer but yes.

I'm also now imagining like home security people who come and do all the security for the floo - and also probably other security spells around the home? It probably would exist.

the beauty is of course, MJ's

I've always treated it like doors: in public places they're almost always open, but in private homes people can lock them or keep them open. I agree that it would be done through magic (probably a spell you cast to lock it?) because it would definitely be a hazard if anyone could just floo into anyone's home :P

HP wiki mentions that "a fireplace could be disconnected by the use of a simple spell", which I assume people could do pretty easily in their own homes to ~go offline for the night etc. I also imagine there are security spells and alarms in common use. (I'm also kinda picturing like physical things you can put in your fireplace like an extra grate that bars people from actually getting in even if the fireplace is "connected", or like a baby gate so kids in your house don't use the floo without permission xD)
