Basel Meighan
Ravenclaw | 6th year | Rep. 8 | Wchb

Basel is a very introverted character, unsure of how to act or behave around others and seemingly always saying the wrong thing. Oftentimes he feels out of place at Hogwarts, one of few WC students who have attended long enough to take their OWLS or to even begin the process of taking NEWTS. His academia and grades are incredibly important to him, more so than most things in his life, and he is very hard on himself to do the best that he can.

He is very much a recluse and does not generally seek out social interactions with others. However, he can't seem to resist helping those who need it-- especially when they need help with school. So long as there aren't any exams in the next day or two, Basel is always willing to help those who ask. (though, his reputation and perpetual scowl often scares away those who WOULD ask)
Basel spends the large part of his day in the library, though he can sometimes be found roaming the grounds on the hunt for insects or (on the rarest occasion) participating in a friendly, recreational game of quidditch. similarly, he tries to carve out enough time between his studies to go watch the actual Quidditch games whenever possible.

Acquaintances
Probably where most relationships would fall, kind of a "we know each other and/or of each other but aren't necessarily friends". these relationships could definitely form into friendships or rivalry, though! If acquaintances then Basel definitely has a little bit of an opinion about you.

Friends
Basel is very much an antisocial guy, and kind of ridiculously bad at reading people, but I think it would be nice if he had a friend or two! he likely doesn't have MANY friends and he's definitely not the most attentive one either, often disappearing for days at a time, but you can expect complete loyalty and help completing your transfiguration homework whenever you need. also bug rants. lots and lots of bug rants.
I imagine more recent friendships would be formed accidentally/incrementally, kind of a 'we happen to keep running into each other might as well get to know you' kinda vibe. He's also pretty go with the flow friendship wise, so it would also be completely reasonable if the other party decided they were going to be friends and Basel decided he was ok with that. He was a lot more interested in making/forming friendships 1st-2nd year, so any relationships formed during that time could reasonably be more of a mutual 'you seem cool lets be friends' thing rather than his older selfs less involved approach. Of course, if there's any other dynamic you'd like to explore I'm more than happy to do so!

Enemies/Rivals
Basel isn't the easiest person to get along with, prone to awkward conversation and snappish behavior. He's also somewhat significant competition for 'best grades', and while not particularly competitive that may rub some the wrong the way. Basel abhors 'lazy' characters-- especially if they are upper MC-UC. He's a bit irrational about it, so I could see some potentially one sided stuff happening there as well.
Basel's not typically gonna get into a fight with another person, but exceptions can be made if pushed far enough. It would have to be very far, though. He's very hesitant to do anything which might jeopardize his time at Hogwarts.

That's it! Basel isn't really interested in romance right now, and while I'm open to talking about possibilities (especially for later down the line), probably nothing serious for awhile.

Cad here, I think would make a good friend! He’s a year below him, quiet, kind of awkward, lol, and also WC. He’s constantly worried about getting to continue on with his NEWTs . I’d be down for them having met Cad’s first year.

If he’s taking DADA, I also have Gus Lissington as his professor

Hiii! So I have a few students, but far and away my best option is Charles Whymper who is too serious for his own good, and acts like he might die if he gets a poor grade assuming the stress doesn't kill him first, and tbh if Basel spends any amount of time in popular study areas, he's going to run into Charles a lot. I have Samuel Griffith here. I made him in part to offer plots to academically ambitious students. If you were open to Basel taking an interest in the complicated subject of Alchemy, we could chat about that! He would try, for better or for worse, to get Basil to dip into his fullest potential. He would also demand a lot of dedication.

Then I have Rufus Osei -- interesting here it that he is also not british and therefore a bit alien, but from his personality very much the opposite type. He is very extroverted and I could see him deciding that Basel is his friend, even if Basel does not feel the same way.

Then I have ancient Studies professor Morrigan Crowley, if you are feeling chaotic and weird magic plots and social awkwardness.

Hi there! I have a couple options!

Tennyson Halstead is close in age, but maybe everything Basel would find obnoxious in a person (as he should)? I'm game to do anything there! I actually really like when my characters are actively hated IC lol.

Ramona Pendergast is my ickle firstie she's an okay student and would be easy to tutor!

Mason Skeeter is the herbology proof and Hufflepuff HoH, and Fiona McCarthy is the Hufflepuff matron!

James Fletcher is, like Tennyson, probably a nuisance to him! He's also WC but has no interest in working hard at school (he gets ~mysterious money coming his way because, though unknown to him, he's a rich man's bastard). Jimmy enjoys being a pain and lightly mocking people, sorry not sorry. It's not ill-meant but he does rub people the wrong way. They might cross paths in those friendly quidditch matches or if Jimmy is Suffering sometime by being in the library. xD

Connor Sinnet is a sulky and serious and slightly stand-offish first year, tho if Basel has patience for him I think they could be unlikely friends? Or at least Connor would like to get ahead on academics so might ask someone to help him with more advanced things.

Matilda Farris graduated last summer but used to be one of the Ravenclaw Prefects, also very competitive when it came to academics, so they could have been acquainted in the past!

Hadrian Nott has probably discovered a rare exotic insect species or two in his time gallivanting around the world and probably has a collection at his house, if Basel ever wanted to contact him lol to chat about bugs lol??

I also play Phineas Black, headmaster, who hides in his office and hates everyone. xD

I think what I have to offer would fall into the acquaintences category to varying degrees.

• Elenora Brierley is the CoMC professor; this is her second year teaching it, so he would be familiar with her in that capacity by now
  
• Harmony Gambol is a year ahead of him, also in Ravenclaw. Mostly keeps to her own sort, but would be polite and is quite academic.
