Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
This was the first time Ben had tried to host an event, rather than just the typical classes, practices and games. He was only mostly convinced they had taken enough safety precautions to prevent someone from losing an eye. He was on fairly good terms with the school nurse — hopefully he remained so after today.
After explaining the rules to the students, Ben indicated that all the fliers could get into the air. It seemed only sporting to give them a bit of a head start — with four beaters from each house, there were going to be bludgers flying every which way. Once they were off, he let the beaters up, though none did more than hover over the center of the pitch while they waited for the bludgers to be released.
They were kind of cute, at least in their boxes. Fluffy and white, with little halos of what looked like chalk around their spaces in the container. Ben imagined they would look much less friendly when they were heading towards the students at high speeds.
"Alright! Three, two, one —" He blew his whistle and released the powdery mock-bludgers. The game was off.
HOW TO PLAY:
If your student wants to be a beater, say so - I'll keep track of how many spots are claimed/remain in this post. First come, first serve, but in-character these would likely be students with ties to the house team or the Quidditch club.
Beaters can post any time attempting to hit another student, tagging them. Fliers can post within 48 hours to dodge.
Fliers who don't post are hit by default. If you dodge I'll flip a coin and post saying whether you were hit. You might get a slight advantage if I think your post is fun xD
Fliers are also able to opt in to being hit if you think that's closer to your character's skill level.
Once you've been hit you can check in with Coach Crouch to be recorded, dust yourself off and get back in the air - or you can call it a day :)
If the thread stalls out I'll pick the people for house points based on who was last active.
Feel free to one-line post if that's what works for you, just have fun :P
Nico was excited for this. As Quidditch captain, it wasn't a surprise he had been chosen for one of the Beater spots. He waited for the release of the bludgers as the other fliers flew this way and that.

"Hey Nico! Lets show them what we can do" the redhead called to their captain as they zipped through the air getting the feel for their bat. They had proved time and again how fast and agile they were, it might be fun this time to prove how strong they were.
Claiming the other Ravenclaw beater spot
Bonnie is NB/GF but appears as a girl.
They/them ooc, she/they/he IC.
Anyone who knows them, knows they prefer to be called Blair
This was just like when she played with other riding students back at home. Except there were flying objects called bludgers that she was trying to dodge, instead of trying to jump over obstacles. It would be fine. On Coach’s whistle, Rorie kicked up from the ground and immediately took off.
Pip had been despondent when he had not been nominated as a beater. Well, that was fine. He would simply dodge all the things. He flew into the air with everyone else.

It was not, strictly speaking, his area of expertise, but nonetheless Rex had nominated himself as en ersatz beater for Hufflepuff for the duration of the rather unconventional event. After a moment's head-start for the other participants—Rex noted quickly the positions of his fellow Badgers, though these would no doubt change rapidly—the beaters were allowed into the air, and the seventh year kicked off the ground as though he had been doing it all of his life (and not just the past decade or so).
It would not be normal bludgers but something with a bit less violence in them, which suited the Hufflepuff just fine. With any luck, they would be lighter, allowing his imperfect hits to sail just a bit farther.
A whistle pierced the air.
The not-quite-bludgers were off, and so was Rex, hand gripped tightly around the handle of his bat. At this height, a drop could be lethal to anyone below, and he was glad for the leather thong around his wrist that bound the two in case he should fumble.
The bat made contact, the ball sailing towards Pip Manwaring.
Ben wasn't sure Pip Manwaring had even attempted to dodge — or maybe he had. Manwaring was one of his first years, so Ben had plenty of experience watching him fly, but it was still difficult to tell exactly what the boy intended any time he mounted a broom. In any case, he took the bludger square to the back and came away coated in yellow.
"First point for Crabbe," he called. "Don't let him have all the fun, you lot."
TARGETING OTHER BEATERS: Yes, you can! They can dodge or smack back. If they're hit you get the point but they do not get ejected from the game like flyers (at least temporarily) do.
Anne was and would always be a beater in her heart. When given the opportunity to represent her house with bat in hand, there was little question of Anne's involvement. Almost regretting how hard she hit, Anne sent a shot for the Hufflepuffs.
Anne is a beater for Slytherin, if I'm doing this right. So..tag?
Fiercely competitive, Blair whizzed through the air, a ball came flying their way but they tucked their chest into the broom and spiralled to avoid contact before making a hard turn to catch the ball with their own bat.
CRACK!!
The bat connected hard and the ball flew towards Anne Moony. Blair lovinglychannelledd every time that the Slytherin seeker had got the better of her on the field into her strike.
Blair continued on their rapid arc after launching the ball at Miss Moony. They barely had time to notice the angry badger looming across the field but pushed their broom into a sharp dive to try and avoid the incoming yellow bludger.
Rex's laugh of triumph was largely lost on the wind as the seventh year considered flying the pitch, eyes peeled for his next opportunity to strike. It was provided in the form of fellow captain Nicodemus Dursley, who Abraxas bashed his poweder bludger towards.
Jameson Potter had been disappointed not to make the house quidditch team, but that had been months ago. Since, he had joined the flying and quidditch clubs, and while he was not innately gifted on a broomstick, he was not at all an embarassment, either.
The Ravenclaw kicked off into the air and set about not getting hit. It was, under any circumstance, an admirable goal.
Bonnie Greyback made a decent attempt at a dive, but she had seen the incoming bludger too late; it caught her elbow as she swooped down. Whether this had proved distracting enough to save Miss Moony from Greyback's attempted strike remained to be seen. Hufflepuff was taking an early lead, which privately disappointed Ben as someone with lifelong Gryffindor pride. He wasn't supposed to have favorites, though.
