Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say
#1
13 December 1894 - Hogwarts Courtyard
Cadogan shifted uncomfortably at the edge of the courtyard, tugging his scar tighter around his neck as the cold tried to kiss his skin. It was freezing out, but he had to see for himself if the whispers he’d heard at breakfast were true — a seven foot snowman had appeared in the courtyard, and he wasn’t entirely very nice. Someone had said the snowman had trekked in from the Forbidden Forest, although Cad wasn’t sure how true that was.

The snowman laughed as its twigged arm reached out to steal another hat from a student who had wandered too close — this time a rather garish one knotted in Ravenclaw colors — and placed it jauntily on its own head. He had a Hufflepuff scarf he’d stolen, on top of what looked like another, although Cadogan couldn’t discern what colors that one was. The snowman laughed then, coal black eyes glancing around at the small crowd that was forming around him.

Cadogan stepped back, his hand coming up to rest on his own head, although he wasn't close enough for the stick arm to steal it. He glanced to his left hoping that someone would step up and stop this nonsense; surely a professor would sort this out for them. But he didn’t see any professors present, which inwardly made Cad groan.

The snowman turned its attention toward a group of students near the frozen fountain, its grin somehow widening. It pointed at them. “You! What’s my favorite game?” The students exchanged some nervous glances but no one answered.

The snowman leaned forward, scattering a puff of snow near them. “Let me show you, then.” With a dramatic spin, the giant snowman launched a flurry of snowballs from seemingly nowhere, pelting them at nearby students. Some of the students squealed and scattered while a few others, like Cadogan, decided to see what might happen.

Cadogan ducked before one could smack him square on the face, which made unluckily for the person behind him ensured that they took the brunt of it. He turned around and winced. “Sorry!”

Antelope had been out in the snow with a couple of the other Hufflepuff girls when all this hullabaloo began, the youngest of them, a nervous little first year was finally finding her feet at school and should probably go and hide in the burrow before she got knocked back the few small steps she had taken forward.

Antelope though couldn't help herself and she decided to go and take a look, she saw Mr. Glynn had had the same idea and had found a good vantage point behind the fountain. The Hufflepuff tucked her scarf into her robe once she saw what the monster was collecting, she wasn't having her treasured scarf stolen from her to who knows what end.

She squeeked as the boy in front of her ducked down and she received a face full of snow.

"Sorry" he said.

She scowled at him and her face unconsciously contorted into a snarl somewhat reminiscent of her father, but her annoyed impulse was very quickly replaced by a smile, he had not done it on purpose and what was a snowball if not a free bath. "Where are the professors?" she asked as she pulled out her alder wand ready to defend herself if necessary. Another snowball flew at them and this time Antelope was quick to draw with a burst of fire that turned the ice into a not-unpleasant puff of warm steam.

"Think we can melt him before he gets to the younger students?" she asked Cadogan.

Forsythia would not have been out in his snow at all if one of her roommates, a fellow Hufflepuff first year had not insisted. Now she was dealing with a seven foot tall snow man. She had no idea where her scarf had gone either. She shrieked a little as a snowball hit her square in the chest. The sensation was not very pleasant and Forsythia was quite over all this already.

Cadogan blinked before he turned toward Miss Grace, only to find that she was scowling at him.. .at least for a moment. It kind of reminded him of those funny mirrors that changed as you walked through the hall of mirrors. Well, hopefully she wasn’t about to kill him because the snowball had been an innocent mistake. He shrugged at her question because he had no clue where they were, although if one of them were here, the Snowman would probably be gone by now.

The snowman didn’t seem to appreciate her spell, as he lumbered closer, scooping up more snow from the ground and hurling it toward them. More students shrieked and scattered. Cadogan turned just to see a young Hufflepuff getting hit with one. He cleared his throat as he turned his attention back toward Miss Grace. “Melt him? I’m not sure…” Cad wasn’t exactly super confident in his abilities.

“Well, do you want to start trying while I usher the first years to safety?” He nodded his head toward the Hufflepuff, and without really waiting for an answer (Miss Grace would follow if she felt the need, he supposed), Cad made his way over toward the younger student. “Are you okay?” He asked quietly.

Antelope gave a little half shrug back mimicking Glynn "I think I've an idea." she looked over at her second year housemate as Cadogan ran to help her. Antelope could at least cause a distraction even if she might not know how to destroy the snowman.

"Flippendo!" she chanted and whipped her wand towards their assailant. It worked! The three balls of the great monster tumbled up into the air and scattered on the ground no longer stacked on each other and no longer advancing. Genie grinned to herself and looked over smugly towards the other students. It was the looks on one of the other fleeing students faces that made her turn back and realised.

The balls were each individually moving and rolling around each other trying to reform, which in itself looked much more sinister than the actual snowman. The torso ball was first to find its rightful position, it's left arm was intact and it reached down to pick up and replace it's right arm before looking for its head with a big laugh.

It was only when it was rebuilt that Antelope had realised she had been frozen to the spot in disbelief and had entirely forgotten to run away with the others. Now the snowman looked at her with a renewed interest and resumed lumbering forward, she wansnt sure if it was just that he had picked up different stones for its eyes but she was certain it looked even angrier now. "Oh dear... erm... sorry?" she bashfully said before darting behind a pillar under one of the archways.
