Mr. Gus Lissington vs. Miss Persephone Broadmoor
#1
27th April, 1894 — Hogsmeade Memorial Assembly Rooms, Duelling tournament
The Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor! Well, this was shaping up to be a fun one – Lissington seemed like an agreeable fellow from here. And here was Cleon’s sister. (Hopefully Miss Broadmoor’s skills were more in line with her first brother’s than the brother he knew, because Cleon was... well. Cleon.)

He ran through the rules, but was keen to get to the good stuff, so – “Mr. Lissington to cast first!”

He couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation in the air - Gus loved dueling.

After the formalities of listening to rules that made him fidget and bowing, Gus cast his first spell, "Petrificus Totalus," in hopes of temporarily freezing his opponent. It was a simple spell, but one of the professor had learned to be quite effective.

A shield charm did not make for entertaining competition, but Persephone Broadmoor knew it to be a sound defence. Showiness, she reasoned, was far better suited to one's offence, when one had control of the round. And hers was a strong shield charm, as a rule: she was, after all the daughter and sister of aurors.

(She was also the daughter of a housewife and the sister of Cleon, but that was no matter.)

"Protego!" Persy cast clearly and definitively. Speed, she suspected, would be the deciding factor here.

Oh no. Maybe Miss Broadmoor was all poet after all? Her counter had come too late – Tyb waited until she was back to rights before he gave the point to Lissington. "Miss Broadmoor, your retaliation," he said, with a wave.
Gus Lissington: 9| Persephone Broadmoor: 2

Persephone's mouth formed into a tight line of displeasure, but otherwise she gave little reaction. When given the go-ahead, the witch wasted no time at all: "Silencio!"

While there were many witches and wizards with experience in nonverbal magic, precision and force deteriorated somewhat when one lost one's voice. It was a gamble: she hoped this Mr. Lissington was not an adept in the art of silence.

Gus was pleased to have won the first round, and he couldn't help the small grin that tugged at the corner of his lips. It faded quickly as his opponent readied herself for her next spell, eyebrows knitting together in concentration.

Silencio... what an interesting spell to use in a duel. Gus didn't want to use a shield which probably wouldn't do any good, so instead he cast, "Finite Incantatem," a generic counter spell that he hoped would be effective enough.

Miss Broadmoor's spell was promptly dispersed by the Defence professor, and thus put a premature end to this bout.

"Mr. Lissington takes the duel," he announced.
Persephone Broadmoor: 1 | Gus Lissington: 6
