Okay, this is a weird plot idea I have and it's not fully fleshed out yet. I'll try and describe the basic idea but please know it's all very flexible at this stage and what it actually ends up being can be co-created with the plot partner(s). <3
The basic goal here is to create a complicated relationship dynamic between some group of characters that will be fun to explore between the two of them while incomprehensible to the other people in their lives. I have a few possible routes to get there:
Butterfly Effect: You're probably familiar with the butterfly effect, the theory that even a small change to past events could have a dramatic impact on the present/future. In this plot route, two (or more) characters had some interaction in the past - could be significant or could be totally run of the mill. Those same characters come into contact with a magical artifact that puts them back in that moment (in their heads - not literal time travel), but this time things go differently. This changes the way their relationship unfolds over the course of however many years, until they're back in the present day. Nothing actually changed in the past, present, or future, but now they're both intimately familiar with this "other version" of themselves and have to deal with that.
Pocket Dimension Castaways: Two (or more) characters get trapped together by some magical happenstance. They get sucked into a magical mirror, transformed into a painting or book, etc etc. They're stuck there for a long time... or at least that's what they think. When they're freed, they are returned to more or less exactly the moment they were stuck in the first place. Now they have a decade of relationship development that essentially happened instantaneously... and probably conflicts with some of their other relationships.
For either scenario the relationship drama that comes to mind most readily is that two characters become romantically involved in the "other" space, but one or both of them are involved with other people in the "real world." They can't exactly throw their marriage away over a weird thing that happened and might disappear when the magic wears off (you never know!) - but they also can't pretend this other person is a stranger, when they know them intimately and still care about them to some degree.
That said, I'm really open to any sort of complicated relationship dynamic - doesn't have to go the romance route ^_^
If you're interested, let me know which character(s) you'd want to possibly involve in something like this and we'll figure out what is most interesting to both of us! My potential candidates are Reuben Crouch Eldritch Morgan J. Alfred Darrow @"Juliana Binns" and Ozymandias Dempsey (or one of my inactive crew if any of them interest you)

MJ made this <3
