Don't Sleep on History {Years 3-5}
#1
January 4th, 1892 — History Classroom, Hogwarts

"...but it appears," Hamish continued, raising his voice and doing his best to stifle his amusement at the sleeping student, "that Mr. Fudge has had a particularly sleepless holiday, or else Father Christmas brought me a particularly soothing voice this year."

Two bushy, grey eyebrows were arched expectantly at the lad who had groggily begun to wake. Hardly an auspicious start to teaching in 1892, but a amusing one, nonetheless.

Maddy giggled softly, whispering to her Alcyone, "I don't think he'd dare fall asleep for any other professor—Professor Darrow doesn't look particularly cross."

Alcyone giggled as well in response to Maddys words before whispering back. "You have to admit, Professor Darrows voice is a bit soothing, though." In this class, it kind of felt like a kindly grandpa reading you stories sometimes.

Paxton had only meant to lay his head down onto his desk for a moment. He had been up much too late the night before with his dormmates who had almost all been eager to rehash their different holidays. "Present," he called out instinctively as he groggily awake when his name was said before realizing that the professor was not doing a roll call. His cheeks flushed and he smiled sheepishly at his head of house. "Apologies, professor."

No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings

Nico glanced towards the drowsy Hufflepuff and was relieved he wasn't in his shoes. He surreptitiously put his quill down and covered the top right corner of his parchment which was embellished with a few relevant (but likely frowned upon all the same) doodles. He'd been struggling with his work ethic since the school year had started and it seemed the Christmas break had done little to alleviate the problem.

Poor Mr. Fudge, Sisse thought as she watched the professor's eyes land on the fourth year Hufflepuff. Beside her Maddy was whispering to Alycone and from the soft words that Sisse caught she had to disagree. She rather thought Professor Darrow quite intimidating. Most adults fell into that catagory though.

Aware now that Professor Darrow definitely was watching them and not just lecturing, Sisse kept her eyes on him and sat straight as if no one was whispering around her, she certainly did not want to be called out in front of the whole class.

As history class went on, it was briefly disrupted by the Professor calling out a Hufflepuff that had fallen asleep. He glanced towards the other boy before facing the professor once more.

Flora's eyes rolled so hard it nearly hurt before her gaze shot across the desks to look at Abraxas Crabbe with an expression that clearly said, He's one of yours.

If Fudge lost them house points, she was going to insure Bonaccord ran him extra laps in practice if it was the last this she did. How did one literally fall asleep on the first day back? Calla groaned, flopping down on the table she shared with her friends.

Abraxas snickered into his fist as Fudge's nap was disturbed—he would have to give his dormitory-mate a ribbing for this later!

He met his cousin's gaze and gave her a sheepish shrug. Flora could be as high and mighty as she wanted, but it was amusing.

Sirius elbowed Abraxas from his seat next to him; he'd managed to contain his laugh at Fudge, but he was obviously amused, biting his lip to stop the laughter from breaking out.

"Perhaps," Hamish spoke up more loudly, addressing the class at large, "one of you might provide assistance for poor Mr. Fudge—I was speaking about a Goblin Rebellion centered around our very own Hogsmeade Village, but only those who did the advance reading are likely to know which rebellion I was about to introduce. Anyone?"

Emma's hand shot into the air at his question, she liked Mister Fudge, he was nice, and seeing him squirm at being caught out wasn't a pleasant experience - that being said, if someone had to fall alseep in class - better a Hufflepuff than Ravenclaw!

'The Goblin REbellion of 1612 sir, they used the old inn as their headquarters.' she recited, having used the Christmas break to read most of the remainder of the text books for the year. She had stayed at school - and with so few students it had passed the time rather well. Her uncle had even sent her another book on the Goblin rebellions as a result of the reading.

"Very good, Miss Binns," Hamish affirmed with a chuckle at her enthusiasm. "Take five points for Ravenclaw. The Goblin Rebellion of 1612," this, he continued, was directed once again at the class as a whole, "took place in the vicinity of Hogsmeade, likely due to its proximity to this very castle. Now, this was not the Hogsmeade we know today, of course—the events of 1877 have seen it boom in population like never before. But the village itself has been around for quite some time—can anyone recall when it was founded?"

The class progressed and when they were asked if they remembered when Hogsmeade Village was founded, she rose her hand. "The year 914," she answered, recalling the little plaque she sometimes saw in Hogsmeade. At least, she was fairly certain that was the year. It definitely been way before 1612 at any rate.

Leander continued writing down his notes as the professor moved the class along. They were now talking about Goblin Rebellions and when Hogsmeade was founded.
