Hogwarts Librarian
The awkward Librarian of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, known for her bad nerves and tendency towards unsociableness when faced with large gatherings. A working class lady, she lives with her older brother Ramsay, an Auror, and takes care of her younger twin brothers in his stead. Really just wants to fit in and be normal, but can’t seem to get comfortable in her own skin.

Working Class peers || Bethel isn’t the most–well, actually, she isn’t gregarious. Period. But she lives in Pennyworth and handles all the money matters of her brother’s house, so she’s seen out and about often (when not hiding away in Hogwarts at her job) doing errands in High Street and coming to and from her brother’s home in Pennyworth.

Romance… || Though she doesn’t talk about it, Bethel has had several interested parties come and go over the years; the men were never interested enough to really be suitors and yet they’re flakiness as made her a bit skittish of the thought of marriage, though she’d never admit this outloud. A fear of not being good enough? Society would eat her alive. She is a closested asexual but very, secretly romantic at heart (male oriented) and heading toward spinsterhood at the moment. Be warned, though, her awkwardness and anxiety reaches into this area as well.

Friends or Colleagues? (Hogwarts) || Bethel is a workaholic and, coupled with the fact she only spent one year in Hogwarts, she doesn’t have almost any friends from social circles or school. She knows she should be discriminative of the gender and class of who she makes friends with – especially when surrounded by middle class and upper class individuals while working – which makes it harder for her to reach out; but, also, growing up with an older brother does make her a bit more open to male friends (the horror). However, she is more likely been forced to have  interacted with her fellow staff members and her love of books makes her the perfect buddy for a fellow nerd… if they can, y’know, get past her layers of oddness.

Former Bullies,  but now? Who knows || Bethel was bullied by a group of fellow working class teens throughout her youth and then again in Hogwarts. She hasn't changed much since those times, so it's likely people (same ones or not) dislike her for the same reasons as before.

I want to thread her with Juliana! Juliana is a spinster and secretly an academic (and also asexual interestingly enough, though she doesn't actually have language to describe that due to the time period). They could have come across one another at the Crowdy Memorial Library, or at the bookstore in Hogsmeade - Juliana's brother owns the latter and she spends a lot of free time at the former. They could be, if not exactly friends yet, then at least "I keep seeing you around reading books and I have been smiling in your direction a lot" sort of acquaintances.

EDIT: ACTUALLY, if you're interested, maybe Beth could take this thread? Could be that they had a we-see-each-other-around-but-never-talk sort of relationship for years and then Juliana struck up a conversation in order to panic invite her to this party?

Hi there! I have been WAITING for you to post a networking! <3

I have some good options for you! Elsie here was  year above her and a Gryffindor (her brother was a Hufflepuff in Beth's year Harvey Beauregard) but he's inactive at the moment. She is also super socially anxious and not great with crowds, so I can see them getting along! She is a librarian at the London library and is currently freshly married and has a newborn as of December 5th, which was a scandal in and of itself, but if that doesn't deter Beth from being friends, I think they would do swimmingly!

I also have Tabitha Chevalier  who was a Hufflepuff a couple years behind her, she's a healer, but is also pretty quiet and reserved because of her half-veela status. She's worked hard to be taken seriously at her job and not be that token "pretty face".

@"Daffodil Potts"  is another likely friend, she's a former Ravenclaw a couple years behind as well, but her family owns a florist on the High Street which she runs. Daff is legit the most socially accepting person, she's basically a hippie born in the wrong era so nothing much bothers her, she's friends with just about everybody. Her youngest sister is a 5th year at Hogwarts!

And speaking of Hogwarts, my crew includes Sloane Bixby  my boisterous metamorphmagus Gyffindor 5th year. She's loud and avoids the library generally, but is pretty friendly. Mason Skeeter  is the nerdy herbology professor. He's pretty quiet and unassuming, but loves his job and has been there for a few years now. I also have the headmaster Phineas Black  who more than likely petrifies her because he's an overbearing asshole, just avoid him XD


Oh I also forgot I have Rhys Gallagher for a potential romantic interest. He lives in Pennyworth as well and is the chief Constable in Hogsmeade!

Jack here was also a Puff but is young enough that they were never in school together.  However he lives in Pennyworth and is pretty friendly.  He's a constable in Hogsmeade so he's constantly floating around and I wouldn't be surprised if he went out of his way to be kind to her. 

Temerita Reid is a year older than her and also a Hufflepuff.  She works in London but is friends with Elsie Kirke so if Bethel is friends with Elsie I'm sure they'd know each other.

Yes, I would love that! Beth is definitely the type to notice when she crosses paths with the same person repeatedly but would lack the courage to go talk to them; on a similar note, she'd also lack the backbone to turn Juliana down about being her plus one (especially if Jules was nice and/or seemed desperate lol), so I'd love to take that thread! Do you want to PM to sort out the details?

For Elsie, I certainly think the two could find a kindred spirit in one another, which Beth would latch onto and it would take a bit to chase her off (she's the quietly loyal type with the right people). We can PM about the details of the "how" they became friends if you want!
Bethel only really goes from work to home and from home to do errands in Highstreet, so she might know Daff in the sense of "oh, it's that bright, friendly florist lady... better not stare too long" -- she might be intimidated by how friendly Daff is but I could see her also admiring Daff's amiable disposition too! The two have probably spoken for sure!
Beth doesn't go near the hospitals if she can help it -- they remind her of her mother when she was alive and worked there -- so she probably doesn't know Tabitha. But it's not unlikely the two might have met on High Street -- Beth might not recall though!
Teenagers...Their hormones and near-adultness make Beth squirm-- the being said, if Sloane isn't usually in the library, then Beth might not even know her name (at least not well enough to match it to a face lol).
I think Beth and Mason could be acquaintances due to being colleagues? They'd no doubt run into one another, being staff at Hogwarts!
Yes, Head Master Black is the thing of nightmares; Beth goes out of her way to avoid him when ever plausible (aka she has an excuse), if only for her own sake. Her reputation doesn't need anymore hits for upsetting the Hogwarts Head Master somehow and she likes her job lol xD
You have intrigued me with Phys -- I'd be open if you want to PM to discuss ideas! Or we can just test the waters with a thread if you want <3

Jack sounds like a sweetheart, and Beth would appreciate his kindness, even if she's too... "shy" to show it! Would probably know him as the "friendly young constable" and would maybe even give him a smile or two sometimes when running into each other (all while avoiding eye-contact).

I think Beth and Elsie would be friends, so she'd know Temerita is another friend of Elsie's -- whether they were friends would depend however on if they met through Elsie often enough for Beth to be comfortable!

I'd love to see Beth interact with some of the other members of Hogwarts staff as well as the students! So if you want to do more threads with Hamish, then I'd be up for one with him <3 Especially considering he was both the Professor of Magic History and Hufflepuff head during the one year she spent at Hogwarts; she definitely remembers him! She probably wasn't the best student grades-wise, but she did try her best given he was (and is) both a professor, a head of house and a deputy headmaster lol
Mood-wise, I'd love for maybe something tense and awkward that smooths out in the end -- even after three years, Beth hasn't really "settled" in as a part of the school staff and maybe Hamish has noticed?

Howdy!  Only one I have in the castle is Quincy Smellie ( the library's near resident excited bundle of energy that is trying to read his way into being a wizard ).  If he isn't in class, exploring the castle, or at a Slytherin Quidditch practice/game decent odds he is in the library or somewhere with one of it's books trying to make magic work ( to this point he is batting a zero on actual spellwork so the books/library are safe ).  Though it would be reasonable to be concerned about his tendency to twiddle his wand in his hand while concentrating and reading books in a way that occasionally slips into being out loud.

Bethel has a soft spot for the first and second years of any house (at least, as long as they're too unkind lol), as they're so young and remind her of her little brothers. Bethel does well with young children in general, and has a special spot in her heart for young, aspiring bookworms! She could only afford to go to Hogwarts for one year, so she understands having to read your way into more than the most basics of magic. (He's adorable and I'd love to thread with him; hit me up by PM whenever you want about these two interacting <3)

Hey Bones! I love Bethel already!

If she is friendly with Elsie, she will probably know Tybalt Kirke through her, if nothing else. He's her husband now, but was her best friend/secret boyfriend for many years prior and although he is not remotely bookish (he's more a joker who used to play pro quidditch), he did have a habit of pestering Elsie wherever she worked. He is generally friendly but may be a bit much for Bethel xD

Augusta Robins is a WCHB, resident of Pennyworth and a former Hufflepuff, a couple years older than her. I think Gus might like Bethel now, or at least feel protective of her (she is similarly insecure and awkward when it comes to looks and romance and feminine things, and would fight anyone for her friends), but Gus does channel that insecurity into being loud and jokey and ready to fight so might have come across more like ~trouble when they were younger, so not sure whether Bethel would have liked her or just felt like Gus was making fun of her.

Carmelina Cramming is Hogwarts staff, a bubbly nerd, would be painstakingly friendly whenever she visits the library.

Nelson Higgs is a Ravenclaw seventh year and very fond of the library. James Fletcher is not, and I am sorry to say he is insensitive enough to absolutely make fun of Bethel's oddities without thinking, so if you would like to deal with a nightmare second year, let me know.

Barnaby Wye is an overdramatic ghost from the Tudor era, he hangs out in Hogsmeade mostly but is a big fan of Literature so might drift up to visit the Hogwarts castle and relentlessly pester her to turn pages of books for him sometime so he can catch up on a couple centuries of reading.

Hey Bones! Just thought I'd pop by to say hi because Ida spends a ton of time in the library.
She actually has a major research thesis she's working up, and so this time will only increase over the next several months. I could see her having had a few conversations with Miss Nye and really appreciating how she's way smarter than people give credit for, maybe they talk about career prospects and such. Ida doesn't think women are treated fairly and might vent about it if given the opening.

Sidebar I would also like Ida to have a proper reason to access the restricted section so there might be an upcoming convo where Ida is mining for books for her literature review and maybeeee Miss Nye suggests that some of this information is not available to the students without their professor's permission. Just an idea

  

Elias Grimstone -- these are great choices (and I totally thought I'd responded to you here already ;n; )
But, yes, Tybalt definitely was and still might be a bit much for Beth -- but Elsie is a package deal now lol

I would honestly love for Augusta and Beth to have known each other during her brief stint in Hogwarts -- back then she felt like Gus was making fun of her but if they reconnect(ed) now, I think Beth (and her lack of backbone) wouldn't do anything to dissuade Gus from thinking their friends. And, more likely than not, that would lead to the realization that they're more alike than they first appear (and Beth would definitely benefit from having an outwardly feisty friend in her life!)

Nelson seems like an utter sweetheart and his silent nature probably does a lot for Beth's nerves when it comes to teenagers, instead of unnerving her!

Beth being haunted by a Tudor ghost with a love of literature seems like just her luck, bth xD

Even though Camelina already took Beth's open thread (and I already love her), I'd be down to thread with Gus, Nelson or Barnaby too <3

Ida Chang - I'm glad so many library regulars are sweet/like Beth ;u; she's a fragile tall lady
But Beth would definitely be the one to tell Ida, if she brought it up hitting a dead-end or such, about needing a professor's permission to get into the restricted area; Beth may not have a much of a spine but she really likes her job, so she upholds that rule (among others). I'd definitely be open to a thread about the two talking careers or one where Ida finds out how to get permission for the restricted section <3
