Trystan Selwyn v. Gaius Malfoy
#1
31st October, 1891 — Padmore Park, All Hallows Duelling Tournament

Hrm...two of his colleagues up against each other - Selwyn was a good instructor if not prone to...distractions, while Malfoy he knew hadn't succeeded past his first year of training, but was still a decent wizard nonetheless; and a colleague on the Wizengamot. Faustus wasn't exactly a betting man, but he was certainly intrigued by how this competition would turn out

With the rules stated, Faustus indicated to Selwyn with a nod of his head. "When you're ready," he said.

Trystan decided to start flashy, and, if Malfoy's reflexes were slow and the spell worked, he would be transfigured into a tortoise.

Flash was, in Gaius' estimation, impractical. Sure, it impressed, but it seldom got the job done. Instead, the wizard focused on a simple—but strong—shield charm.

Faustus watched as Selwyn's spell hit Malfoy's shield, and raised his eyebrows slightly in surprise. But a fraction of a second after it had hit his shield, the spell broke through and hit Malfoy in the chest.

Soon enough, there was a rather handsome tortoise in Malfoy's place, indicating that Selwyn's spell had worked. "This first round goes to Mr. Selwyn." Faustus announced, gesturing to Selwyn as Malfoy was put to rights. With a nod to Malfoy, he then added, "Whenever you're ready, Mr. Malfoy, please start our second round."

Restored to his human state, Gaius felt stiff, as if his lanky frame had been compressed into a reptilian form rather than changed. The sensation was a distracting one, and the wizard took a long moment before moving to disarm Selwyn.

Excellent. Satisfied though he was by that result, there was much less time now to try anything too far-fetched, so Trystan simply hoped to slow down Malfoy and his oncoming spell with a – hopefully – timely Impedimenta.

Faustus watched as Malfoy drew himself up, recovering from Selwyn's last spell. It had been quite a good one, despite taking its time to break through Malfoy's shield. But in the end, it seemed to disorientate the wizard enough that his casting saw the spell shoot right over Selwyn's shoulder and into the crowd. Someone's wand flew to the sky, and half the crowd's attention was diverted to the small scene instead of witnessing Selwyn's well shot jinx hit Malfoy square in the chest.

While Selwyn was already safe from the spell Malfoy had cast, it hardly would have mattered anyways. Malfoy had almost frozen in the position he'd been in. Faustus would have thought that Selwyn had cast a body bind curse if he hadn't seen that Malfoy was still moving, but just barely. "The duel goes to Mr. Selwyn," Faustus announced, quickly setting Malfoy to rights again to let him recover. "Congratulations, Mr. Selwyn." He gestured to Selwyn before acknowledging Malfoy with a nod.
