Did You Know?
One of the cheapest homeless shelters in Victorian London charged four pennies to sleep in a coffin. Which was... still better than sleeping upright against a rope? — Jordan / Lynn
If he was being completely honest, the situation didn't look good, but Sylvano was not in the habit of being completely honest about anything. No reason to start now.

LUCIUS CORVO

b. 25 July 1860 | UCPB | Slytherin | Man of Leisure | Suggested PB: Colin O'Donoghue

Angelica’s younger twin brother, Lucius and his twin have spent their lives trying to be different. It didn’t take much work. Where his twin is a decisive perfectionist, Luc elevated chaos to a fine art form. He’s naturally bright but invested the bare minimum to get by in school, preferring popularity and Quidditch to his studies. Lucius is recently returned from learning the family business under his older brother in Venice, or so the story goes. Luc spent the better part of the last thirteen years earning the ‘rake’ moniker in as many languages as possible, but his antics finally went one step too far when rumors of a possibly less-than-pureblood bastard reached dear old dad. The threat of being cut off brought him back to Britain, but it isn’t all bad. He hasn’t ruined any British girls since his Hogwarts days and It’s been a while since he made his twin’s life miserable. Might as well make up for lost time. Rep is 7-8.

MARVOLO GAUNT

b. 1870 | WCPB | Slytherin Dropout | Open Occupation | Suggested PB: Bill Skarsgard

He attended Hogwarts in September of 1881 and so has a pre-September birthday in 1870. He stopped attending Hogwarts after finishing his third year. He is a parseltongue and betrothed to Morgana. She is devoted to him and he, in turn, worships her but tends to be jealous of her capabilities. He is unlikely to be mentally sound and is prone to violent outbursts if he perceives someone as being disrespectful to him. He and Morgana were married on January 1st, 1891.

Marvolo is a canon on the canon list so be sure to reserve him there!

Basil "Herb" Potts
[Keanu Reeves]
1834 | GHRS | married
8 rep | marine herbologist

Quirky and very go with the flow, Laurel can pretty much use him as a doormat. He wanted at least one boy, but gave up that hope after Daffy was born. He's surrounded by women and mostly okay with it. He's quite adventurous and thoroughly enjoys his underwater career! He is most likely bff's with his brother-in-law, Ewart Fraser. Basil also has a soft spot for Daffy's childhood friend, Jack Dorset.

45+ | MCAB | RAVENCLAW | MAGIZOOLOGIST
There are three things Mr. Farris loves: magical creatures, Matilda (his only child, whom he is determined will marry one of the Yarwood boys), and good port. There are three things Mr. Farris loathes: the feeling of mud in his boots, critical book reviews, and women behaving in an unladylike fashion. Oh, he tolerates Gwendolyn Yarwood's riding astride her horse for she is otherwise an excellent hostess, and he wants access to the Glen for his research, but he doesn't like it. And he certainly doesn't like the little girl playing at being a dragonkeeper! PB is open but should be either white or East Asian.

Elizabeth “Betty” Plunkett nee —
[Pictured as Leslie Mann]
THE ECCENTRIC ONE
1840 | ILLVERYMONY GRAD | MARRIED
8/7 REP | MANAGER OF PLUNKETT GENERAL STORE

Born and raised on the American frontier Betty is a firm believer in self sufficiency. She makes many of the goods for their General Goods store and is constantly looking for ways to add additional items. She is the reason for the beehives and sheep on the farm and has a running “joke” with Bert about purchasing their own silkworms to make silk. She spends much of her time at the store and is very invested in the lives of her sons. Of the friends she is loud and enthusiastic, but always there for week and chats. She considers her friends' children as much her family as her own boys.

JANE MCKINLEY nee ---

B. 1807 | MC Muggle | N/A | Widow/Caregiver | Suggested PB: OPEN

A formidable, no-nonsense kind of woman, Jane McKinley nonetheless has a soft spot for her only great-grandchild. She values her family above all else, even if she's still a bit leery about magic in general. She's also never quite forgiven Arthur for knocking up her granddaughter, and the two have never had better than a barely civil relationship.

Klaas Spaans
[Image: tumblr_oeju5aaMFr1ug4j7ao4_400.gifv]
MCHB| BEAUXBATONS | DUTCH AMBASSADOR / BUSINESS / HOSPITAL?
Kaatjie's uncle, Klaas (born 1855) was always a lot more responsible than his only sister — while Adriana was cavorting around Europe, impulsively marrying Don Juan Dempsey, Klaas was moving to Britain, establishing himself in his career, and marrying a responsible British debutante. He was softened by the death of his son, Willem, in 1890, and took time off work to care for his sister at the end of her life in 1892. In early 1893, Klaas brought Kaatjie to Britain with him, came up with a vague backstory for her, and was determined to keep her away from any of the Dempseys in order to avoid a scandal (but did tell Don Juan he would care for her via letter.)

Klaas was born in the Netherlands and attended Beauxbatons.

I think Klaas-ambassador would be funny so he has to deal with his feelings about Dempseys at the Ministry. Klaas is predominately responsible and stoic, but soft with his children and niece — and could be keeping additional secrets of his own. Pictured is Mike Colter; alternatives to be Black. He will also be suing the Dempseys.

Twin Sister

For Juniper Edevane
You're more than welcome to combine with other ads/plots.

Ophelia Edevane

B. May 26, 1874 | UCPB | Not Slythie | Deb | Anna Selezneva

This is Ophelia, June’s (younger) identical twin sister. They do not get along at all, and well, June used to hex her at Hogwarts (she gave her antlers once just for fun), and in turn Ophelia would dish it right back. The Edevane family dabble in dark magic (their father has tried and failed to bring back their dead mother), but Ophelia can feel however she wants about that - June embraces it. How she feels about the Season is up to you, or you could even have her engaged or married if that tickles your fancy; June doesn’t take it quite seriously, although this year she might, mainly because of her little race with Beckett. Either way, she'd want to be married before her sister, just because that's their relationship.

Also available: Alistair Edevane, their father, who lost the love of his life when his wife died. His life ambition is to somehow bring her back to life. He's remarried to Grace Edevane, who is the bane of June's existence.

Have a Hatchitt
mostly for Lester Hatchitt and by extension Sisse Thompsett & Sloane Bixby
+ extended Bixbys, Thompsetts, Pottses and the friend group.

The Hatchitts, like many of their neighbors and friends are a fairly close-knit group, though tend to be wildly different in personality. Eldest brother Jesse Hatchitt has settled into his ministry job and married life with his wife, Marianne; as has sister Connie with her family; sister Victoria remains unwed, but content, possibly working; Lester is attempting to make his way into adulthood and floundering a little bit. And by a little bit, it’s actually a lot. Unfortunately, youngest sister, Mercy, was lost to the Laughing Plague in 84, having never been in the best of health.

That leaves Josiah.

Josiah Hatchitt
Hero Fiennes-Tiffin
1870 | MCHB | unattached | 8+ rep
open occupation

Josiah, as with his likely bff Harrison Bixby, suffers a bit from Middle Child Syndrome. It’s not as bad as Harrison’s, but it’s still noticeable. He's been mentioned being flirtatious in past threads, despite not being hurling-age at the time - (he approaches it rapidly!) - but this isn’t something that needs to be strictly kept. He may just be looking for some attention outside his normal sphere and figuring out how best to go about it. His opinion on all of the current drama is also open, as is his general (dis)interest. Lester and Josiah like each other, but they're not besties, and often don't understand each other.

Bee has some additional (optional) ~plot nuggets in mind for him, so feel free to ask via PM or DM.

for MISS GRIM

Unspeakable Archives

A Department in the Ministry of Magic whose actions were shrouded in secrecy, as those who worked there sought to unravel the mysteries of the world – including research into time, death and love.— Pottermore

The Department of Mysteries is home to abundant knowledge and experimentation, and few know what truly goes on behind its doors. The Archivists, however, know more than most.  Trusted with all the knowledge the department has ever amassed, the Archivists work behind the scenes as librarians, custodians, and human repositories. The archives are almost as old as the department itself, having been developed five years in by Warrington Greene, the first archivist.

It is a small team: six hand-picked individuals, led by a Head Archivist who was previously of their ranks. These people are generally:

  • Highly intelligent
  • Lacking in external connections
  • Possessing a special skill or knowledge that has them ‘flagged’ as a candidate
  • Those who wish to know more about the world than their existing field can accomodate
Exceptions can, of course, be made for the right candidate.

Their work days are spent in a number of ways, all within a special archival subfloor of the department. This subfloor is accessible only via a lift within the Department of Mysteries itself, and consists of a workroom with desks and a massive card catalogue spanning one wall of the room. From here, there is a corridor that leads to a tearoom, a toilet, a library, and the Hall of Artefacts, a labyrinth of constantly moving small rooms, each dedicated to a specific artefact or experiment. The correct path is available only if one has the relevant card from the catalog, upon the back of which will appear a small map.

Throughout the day, Archivists might…

  • Keep meticulous records of departmental knowledge/experiments, each scribed into a book kept in the archival library
  • Wade through pensieves of memories of Unspeakables, past and present, to learn about their work
  • Meet with Unspeakables to interview them on current projects, or serve as a “human Google” to direct them to materials, or provide knowledge, to support these projects
  • Engage in their own research, time permitting. Time often does not permit, but it’s always good to have hobbies!
Worried that all this knowledge might be Too Much? A security risk? Worry not!

  • All employees agree to a “Forget-About-It” rune, tattooed behind their left ear. This neatly segments their memories into two halves, which switches when they enter/leave the Department of Mysteries (yes, Severance).
  • While in the department, they go by an alias—something similar to their name in some way, but not it, so as to add a layer of anonymity.
  • When asked about their jobs, they say they are “support staff at the Ministry of Magic”, a phrase so boring few people ever want to follow up.
It is a well-oiled machine.

But all machines break down.

The Head Archivist
All names, aliases, and ethnicities are open unless otherwise stated.

"PURDY"
60+ | MCAB/UCAB | OPEN HOUSE | HEAD ARCHIVIST
This character is temporary.
“Purdy” has been the head archivist for 5 years, and boasts a scar where their forget-about-it rune once was as a mark of their station. As such, they are once again one set of memories, which prompts semi-regular headaches for which they take an experimental tonic. Its side effects include an occasional blue tinge—a small price to pay, in their estimation. They are deeply committed to the Department of Mysteries, the archives, and their work, and after examining Win’s file—”Purdy” was in charge of her specific records—set about recruiting her to the archives fresh out of school.

They are a skilled occulmens, and one of their responsibilities is training the archivists in this ability.

Unfortunately, while an excellent archivist, “Purdy” also has amassed substantial debts that must be repaid. With the rejoining of their memories, however, they’ve had an alternative currency that might be used…

Pictured PBs are Angela Basset/Mark Rylance.

Immediate Ties: Winsome Grimshawe Warrington Katzen
Bonus Ties: Emilia Moony Brooks Watson Sweetie Whitledge Frederick Patton Marlena Scamander Ezra Applegate
Potential Ties: Other Ministry staff, as appropriate
Double Duty: Rasputin Valenduris
