Time to Wake Up! [OWL DADA]
#17
Sloane squealed loudly when the cold water hit her like a blast. It was quickly followed up by a helpless look toward Cam and a peal of genuine laughter. It was then that Professor D'Orsay came by and chastised them lightly (with a smile) about the purpose of the lesson. All she could do was cast him an apologetic smile of her own and she took a moment to step outside of the bubble into the drying warmth.

She dried her own hair, bringing the wet braid back to life easily with her meta abilities, but that wouldn't work on her robes. "I'll cast, you block this time?" She giggled again looking at Cam for affirmation before they tried again.

Alcyone could not help but feel a little smug that she had been the successful one. " Aqua Eructo." she cast after the professor had told Selwyn it was his turn to be on the defensive.

Cameron was unable to hold back his own laughter as they stood opposite of each other, soaked to the bone. He held out his arms and watched the water drip off his robe sleeves before reaching up to smooth his dripping hair. Leave it to them to cause a scene, right? Fortunately Professor d'Orsay didn't seem angry—and even smiled himself!—and Cameron returned the sheepish smile and a nod. "Will do," he said, passing Sloane a mischievous glance before stepping outside the bubble to be dried.

It didn't take very long, and soon they were neck and neck once more. He held up his own wand and nodded in agreement. She would cast while he blocked. Good. Sh fired towards him, and this time Cameron tried to block with the proper spell.

Unease crept into her as Professor D'Orsey instructed them to swap roles. As he walked away, she turned towards Sisse a little unsure of what to do. Her first instinct was to throw the spell, do it just wrong enough that the professor wouldn't find it odd that she'd messed up. Her grade in DADA wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worse. It wouldn't be hurt by throwing one in class practical lesson, not if she practiced the spell later on her own time. It wasn't like she was unfamiliar with the charm - they used it all the time at home instead of lugging a watering can around. It surely wouldn't be that hard to catch up on. And beside, her grade was at the point where not getting a spell the first time wouldn't be weird. But would Sisse be mad at her is she threw it? She couldn't be mad at what she didn't know of, right?

"Aqua Eructo," she voice, her words a bit mumbled as she half-heartedly cast the spell towards her friend.

The smile Ned directed to Alice was a proud one. She'd successfully blocked his spell, and he was elated. Of course, he wouldn't make a big deal of it in public, but he figured she would understand just how much he wanted to punch the air in victory for her.

When they were instructed to switch roles, he waited until she was ready before attempting to block her spell. He was probably one of the only students in the room hoping he would be soaked through with water.

Her spell had ... worked? Alice stared in mild amazement at the frozen wave before turning her grin back to Edison. All his help had truly made a difference these last few weeks. Perhaps there actually was a solid chance of her passing this year and next.

Casting the wave, however, would be a different experience. Alice had no wish to soak Edison the way Cameron and Sloane had done to one another. Sure, in the grand scheme of things water was relatively harmless, but still she worried. With a nod to him that she was ready (though she would likely never be) Alice attempted to cast Aqua Eructo.

Relief flooded through Sisse as the water froze before hitting Calla. But it would be a lie to say that Professor D'Orsay's instructions to swap rules filled her with a bit of trepidation. Steeling herself she determined she'd just have to block the water before it got to her no matter what. With a small but what she hoped was encouraging smile at Calla she prepared herself and cast "Glacius." with as much determination as she could possibly muster.

A smug smile found its way to her face as the professor announced her success and rewarded her points. Holly scrunched up her nose and gave Meta a nasty, taunting sort of look before raising her wand—prim and professionally, as if to make a point—to cast the spell. "Aqua erecto!" she said, and performed the wand movement.

So much for that theory, Sybille found herself thinking as she was soaked through, worse yet the new Professor had seen. Sybille stepped outside the bubble, grateful that she quickly dried off before she returned to face her partner again. She was more careful and concentrated even more this time when she attempted to turn the water to ice, enunciating and swishing her wand carefully as Professor D'Orsay had.
