HELLO! Have you heard of the 5 love languages? They're basically a concept for How You Prefer to Communicate, let's talk about which ones your characters use, humor me.

(ARE LOVE LANGUAGES REAL? Idk I think not to the extent that the concept pretends it is, but people do communicate in diff. ways. I personally think when people cite 'love languages' as a reason for incompatibility what they really mean is other communication issues, but I do think that love languages are a good way to guess what will set your brain on fire in terms of friendships/relationships.

For Example my main love language is quality time, so my relationship Brain on Fire triggers are all time-and-respecting-of-time related, whereas I literally do not care about random flowers/gifts and that doesn't do much for me.)

BUT THAT'S NOT WHY WE'RE HERE! WE'RE HERE TO TALK ABOUT CHARACTERS.

Kieran physical touch + acts of service, although actually if heckling is a love language he is into heckling
Sirius has words of affirmation? probably? he likes compliments
Zelda physical touch this bitch is touch starved as helllllll

Adrestia Dantés - Physical Affection - She really only touches people she really likes, and takes touching from anyone she doesnt like as an offense.

@'BENEVOLENCE MONTAGUE' - Acts of Service - giving and receiving - doing something for her would create and maintain a proper bond

Cadawalader Selwyn - Not sure - he feels like a gifts guy

Elizabeth Cardew - words of affirmation, she is a linguistic person and any speech and writing speak volumes

Ginevra Blackwood - Quality time - she would be happy to hang out in the same room as someone she cared for and not do anything - think sitting in his and hers chairs holding hands across the divide reading (if she was inclined towards that sort of behaviour)

Jack Cardew - quality time - he's a simple egg!

Madeleine Backus - Touch - holding her hand would blow her tiny mind

Meserimus Valenduris - Quality time - sharing his interests would be the biggest statement of love for him.

Murdock Greyback - He is an affirmations guy, despite appearances he needs some reassureance.

Rose Hart - she is fairly materialistic but would give affection through gifts and presume it to be given through time and would probbly be rather offended by gifts

I LOVE THE LOVE LANGUAGES. Not claiming they're the end-all-be-all or anything but I do think it's a really useful way to think about disagreements. Like when I find myself getting all wound up and thinking "UGH he doesn't care about my feelings at ALL," it's useful to step back and go 'Okay, why do I feel that way? Because he didn't ask what was wrong when I sighed. Which does not automatically mean he doesn't care... it means he didn't use the exact words I wanted him to :/'

I think people definitely have the capacity to use all of them but sometimes I have a preference depending on my mood so... yeah. It's a useful way to think about interactions with other people xD And coworkers and friends, too, just replace 'love' with 'validation' and you're still right on the mark.

My cheat when deciding these is "If my character wanted to comfort a distraught friend what would they do?" and bing, that's their love language.

Ernest: maaaybe quality time but tbh I don't think he's cared about anyone enough IC to demonstrate a love language so we'll see. >>
Alfred: Physical touch
Ben: Physical touch
Thom: That Acts of Service/Gifts combo that's really into Grand Gestures, romantic or otherwise.
Tib: Acts of Service. Particularly if whatever it was did put the service-doer at a disadvantage.
Adam: Acts of Service
Emrys: Gifts/Physical touch.
Jules: Harder to say but I'm leaning towards Quality Time/Words of Affirmation combo.

Archie probably expresses his love through quality time. You know, spending the afternoon doing nothing or going on adventures. He'd probably get sad if a loved one didn't make an effort to see him for a long time.

Bella is probably words of affirmation with physical touch. She's got a lot of insecurities related to her worth as a woman, so she probably wants to hear that she's pretty and desirable and lovable.

Cameron has strayed from admitting there is such thing as Romance, but with his friends he's definitely a quality time kind of person. He loves to sit with his friends and generally hang out.

Charity is 8 years old, but probably seeks words of affirmation from family and friends, and I'm sure it will make her a people-pleaser and a perfectionist as she gets older.

Dionisia is definitely acts of service.

Edric is physical touch but also words of affirmation.

Eldin seems like type of person who shows his loves via acts of service but likes to receive it htrough gift-giving.

Ernie is words of affirmation.

Finnian is 100% physical touch.

Flora's is gift-giving with a hint of quality time. She would feel very offended if someone forgot her birthday or didn't put her on their Christmas list. (Whenever she writes to Ernest she probably mentions her toad because in her mind it was his gift to her and an expression of his love or whatever.)

Freddie is too new to really know yet, but I'm thinking it might be words of affirmation.

Frida is definitely words of affirmation.

Handsome is physical touch and quality time.

Helga is equally gift-giving and acts of service.

Holly muse is telling me that she doesn't love anyone, but she is 100% a words of affirmation girl. She needs to know that she's smart and that she's not a terrible person (even though she acts like it >.>).

Hortense is probably act of service.

Lyre isn't a romantic type, but I'm sure if he was to show his love it would be through words of affirmation. As for making sure others care about him, someone generally checking up on his (words of affirmation?) would do the trick.

Orinda is physical touch.

Annabeth Jennings. Quality time and physical touch.

Calla Potts. Hmmm I think she would be a mix of words of affirmation and quality time. Maybbeee hints of acts of service but I think mostly that would be her way of showing love. I'd think she'd possibly like physical touch more cuddling physical touch.

Germander Macnair. Acts of service and quality time. Working on a project or something together. Reading in the same room.  I think he would probably give gifts too. Not like say he gave them but a new object might just show up one day. He'd probably be too awkward to confess to giving it. But also maybe physical touch. instead of acts of service. I'm not sure but I could sorta see him being like a cat and liking it but only when he wants it.

Fern Hays. I think a mix of quality time and physical touch but I'm not sure yet. I think it would take a while but just someone who sticks around would mean the most to her but she'd show her affection more in physical touch.

Iziza Noel. acts of service

Linnet Umbernauld. physical touch

Magdelena Cadden. Possibly acts of service. People going out of their way to do something for her is something she really likes.

Octavia Fawley. A mix of words of affirmation, receiving gifts, and physical touch. I think she'd look very much towards physical proof of love. Anything long term like a letter or a gift but also just being told and touched.

Serpentine Malfoy. At this point with friends and family, I think receiving gifts and quality time. Very materialistic but also easy to please.

Victorius Zabini. Quality time and acts of service.

Winifred Crawford. Receiving gifts and maybe physical touch.

Meta: Quality time. She likes attention and the best way to show her that you love her is by giving it to her. On the other hand, I'd say that she'd be weird on physical touch. I can see grown-up Meta seeking intimacy and physical touch through sex but she'd feel weird about being hugged.

Seneca: Words of affirmation and acts of service. She wants to hear how great she is. She also liked it when people do things for her. Again, she's weird about physical touch like hugging.

Cecily: Unlike the ladies above, she's the sort to hug a friend etc, so physical touch is one of her languages. And acts of service/gifts, because she has actually done so IC too (sending candy to Cash, hosting a surprise party for Theo)

Marcus: Acts of service and gifts.

Ruby: Words of affirmation and quality time. She has an anxious attachment style, so she's the sort to freak out and overanalyze if her partner is distant etc.

Christobal: I'd say gifts and physical touch and he's especially appreciative when someone combines the two
