Hogwarts Plotting
#1
A few of us were talking in the cbox about how we miss all the old Hogwarts drama, so we've decided to try and brainstorm a student-centered plot (or series of mini-plots) that would affect most of Hogwarts.

HERE ARE MY IDEAS.

Awkward practical etiquette lessons. The Etiquette professor (who is not currently played) decides to test her students' knowledge by bringing both sexes together for scenario-based lessons. Obviously there's a ton of potential awkwardness that could come from this: being paired with a crush for a polite small-talk scenario, having to approach classmates and ask for a dance, etc.

Something happens—scandal, a revelation, a political issue, a social issue, or my personal favorite: a set of new school rules that causes outrage—that affects every student and forces them to "pick a side". Something like this happened when Topaz Urquart was revealed to be a werewolf and when half-breeds were banned. I'd very much like to see it again.

A group of kids go missing during Hogsmeade weekend. Cue mystery drama.

GIVE ME YOUR IDEAS, THOUGHTS, OR CHARACTERS.

Serial Pranksters. Aka Either an individual or a group of individuals stage all sorts of pranks all over Hogwarts. They start out fun and good natured, but some turn malicious. Students start pointing fingers and are out against each other, all thinking they know who is to blame. There are even some who are copy cats and try to sneak their own pranks in there to blame it on the real perpetrators. Maybe it sparks everyone to start revenge pranking, some people even targeting specific groups of people.

I'm more than happy to throw Gildea into things and will probably be making more students as contributions so >.>

In terms of ideas, I really want something that'll cause TEEN ANGST. And teen drama in general.

I really like the Etiquette lesson idea. It also made me think about the standard "two students are responsible for caring for an egg/fake baby because of home ec and grow closer because of it" trope. I'm not sure exactly how to Victorian-ify that idea. I figure it's possible because the whole point of those exercises was to teach kids how hard being a parent was so don't have sex or you'll die.

Maybe an Etiquette section on social faux pas and their consequences to teach the students about the harsh realities of being shunned from society.

Not to reply immediately, but I just had another idea for a potential long term thing to do with Etiquette.

What if the classes take the style of a kind of roleplaying? An expansion on the home ec baby care assignment I mentioned earlier. Students would be randomly assigned a surname with different generic backstories (maybe they pick slips out of a hat?).

The goal would be to get to the end of the year without ending up socially ruined or something like that. There would be theory classes for 4/5 days a week, then the fifth class in the week would be a practical thing. Fake balls/dinners/events where students have to act how their Etiquette persona would and observe other students for mistakes. They could snitch on each other for points :P.

I thought it would be a cool, interactive way for the students to learn about their "place" and that of others in social hierarchies. Also a way to incorporate the ideas Bree introduced!

Sign Leif up for anything, lol

But I like the etiquette thing haha. Maybe the professor decides to host a few smaller "balls" for each general year group? (1-3, 4-7, or whatever) And then they have to practice going up to a lady, actually dancing, turning down men who look like they're going to be bad matches. Could be part of the 'you have cards that say who you are' thing.

"I have to be a chaperone!?!

Saxon is down for this. Like, all the drama.

Can he go missing pls

Also if we end up doing the etiquette roleplay thing then 100% SAXON WILL OWN THAT AND BE definitely not at all SUPER SERIOUS ABOUT IT

First, I love all these ideas.

Second, for a new school rule... there was a death last year because of potions. What if it is theory in all classes instead of practical lessons?

The pranking one sounds fun, and like it could cause some serious issues.

Also, yesss dragon pox outbreak!

As for etiquette and roleplaying. Love this idea, especially the balls for each set of years. It also makes sense since there have been quite a few elopements in society, some related to current students. Annnd with dragon eggs idea it might show students (females at least) that their male counterparts arent as responsible until they are older, so it can try to dissway any crushes while in school.

As always, Sisse, Sybille, and Ellsworth are available for any and all possibilities.

i like the dragon pox and etiquette things.
Especially because throwing unprepared debs into balls expecting them to apply theory to practical seems scary.

look at the pretties mj made me!!!

I love the thought of practice balls, dinners, and caring for a fake baby. All my students would be down. Clem would take it so seriously, and Archer might cry or puke on someone's shoes.

I just love all the ideas. Can we do them al?l hahaha

Roleplaying doesn't strike me as particularly VE, but I love the idea of incorporating a ball or dinner into etiquette class as a test. Perhaps the teacher ~inflames passions by putting all WC students into service positions?

Students: /ominous glaring

For Halloween:
The Hogwarts Halloween Feast commences without he staff having a single suspicion that an insidious prank is going on right under their nose. Someone have added candied apples to the table, and about half of those who eat them will fall under a sleep that makes them appear dead—except their bodies go through none of the normal post-death stages, leaving staff and medical professionals confused.

Have fun for a week while you mourn the loss of your bestie, your crush, your sibling, or even your favorite professor, only to have them rise from the "dead" a week later :P
