Ursula’s admonishments failed to penetrate Elladora’s mind much as the pain, curiously delayed and somehow getting worse despite every logical part of her brain acknowledging the impossibility of such a transition, utterly drowned her out. Ella couldn’t remember the last time she had felt anything quite as startlingly painful, if indeed she ever had, and the closest thing she could equate it with was the piercings. Strange how something being added to her body ached as much as something being taken away.
“Yes, I believe so,” she said with unerring calm, beads of sweat already beginning to form on her forehead as her already pale colouring turned ashen. “Be a dear and send for one would you?” She asked through gritted teeth, curling her hand protectively into her sternum, shakily beginning to mount the stairs, registering idly that she had evaded explaining herself at least. “I’ll be in my room when he arrives.”
