Did you know? Jewelry of jet was the haute jewelry of the Victorian era. — Fallin

The guests were going to arrive no matter what Mor did, and she ought to write to Brooks. The trouble was — what would she say? Her brow creased thoughtfully for a moment, but she smoothed out the expression and looked back at Dru.

"I could just send him the ring," she said, twisting the thing around on her fingers. "Even though I may miss the thing."

There were plenty of other rings, after all.

Dru wasn't sure that sending the ring back was necessary, which was why she had asked what Mor intended. There wasn't any established etiquette for this situation, and the ring had been given as a gift. Unless he asked for it to be returned, she could probably do as she pleased... but once she heard that Morrigan was sentimental about it, that decided her that it ought to be returned. If Mor was calling off the wedding in such a dramatic way, there was no sense in leaving remnants of feeling lingering around, ready to surge back like a cancer.

"Shall I buy you a ring?" she asked, perhaps a touch more brightly than the moment called for. "And pledge my lifelong devotion to you as I present it?"

The corner's of Mor's mouth angled just slightly upwards, because Dru's out-of-place cheeriness was just what she needed to get through this morning. "Oh, please," Morrigan said, her tone matching Drusilla's. "Give me another reason to think of you always."

"Well, if you insist," Dru said indulgently. She could buy a ring. She had enough spending money that she wouldn't even have to ask her husband, but even if she had needed to ask him she would have told more than asked. She was owed the ability to spend her own money, after all. It was one of the only things she'd discussed with Albert Pettigrew before the wedding, because that was something her father had made difficult and it was important to her.

"Now," she said, tone changing to business-like. "Shall we get you dressed? You can fit into some of my things." She didn't know what Morrigan had been planning to do with her day after hitting the self destruct button on her wedding, but if she thought she was going to go home and sit around in her nightgown and sulk then Dru could certainly do better than that.

Whatever Dru had was not going to fit entirely right, and was not going to be nearly as pretty as her wedding dress had been — but if she was left to her own devices, Morrigan was not sure how long her resolve would hold. She nodded at Dru.

"You can play dress-up with me all you want," Mor said, standing up. "Tell me all my best fabrics."
