January, 1894 - Hunter's Pets

Dorothea was on a personal errand today and she hoped for success. She had attended Hunter's several times in the past couple weeks buying little bits for the pets of her employer and her own but missing the reason she was really there. One of the family helped out part-time alongside her job at the hospital and Dorothea would quite like a little chat with her.

She tickled through the door and made her way to the cats toy section where she could check out the staff desk to see if her trip would be in vain. She dressed politely as she always did and always carried a friendly smile, this talk was not meant to be one of hostility, but in her mind, it needed to happen. Millie Potts did not even know she was here, nor did their parents and she wondered how her sister might take this interference. She hoped she would consider it for what other was, her sister looking out for her, as she would hate to lose the confidence of the younger girl.

She continued to browse until she was approached, she had only ever met Miss Hunter a few times when she had been a customer so she was fairly certain that the young woman would not even know who she was so she might make a little dance around the subject so Miss Hunter felt comfortable and not ambushed to encourage the best discourse and perhaps determine the path that the older and hopefully more sensible siblings of their family might follow.

When Victoria did greet her, Dorothea would respond with a perfectly lovely "Ahh, Miss Hunter, what a lovely morning. I was hoping you might help me with a few little things."

Victoria Hunter

I will set a specific date if you choose one when Tori wouldn't be at the hospital.

As much as Tori loved her job and wouldn’t change a thing about it, she savored her days off too. The busy, and often stressful, nature of her work made the days away from the sterile environment of the hospital a treat, and Tori spent most off days catching up on the things she missed during the week. Sleep, spending time with family, meeting up with friends, reading, and occasionally helping out around her parents’ pet shop were a few of those things. The latter of which she now found herself doing, having exchanged her healer's robes for a simple work dress and apron, using her wand to levitate a new box of cat treats onto a high shelf.

With Ben at school, her mother running the till, and her father away on business with the other shops, Tori was needed to help manage the storefront, which she did gladly. Her parents did so much to support her dream of becoming a Healer, and it seemed like a small thing to work at the shop when needed. Besides, she loved being around the animals and interacting with the customers; it was different from conversing with patients where the complexity of their diagnoses determined the flow of the conversation. With shop customers, it was much simpler; they have a tonic, salve, toy, or treat need, and Tori only needed to direct them to where it was located, perhaps occasionally making recommendations and a bit of small talk to build rapport. It was, after all, good for business to establish repeat customers.

The cat treats securely placed on the shelf, Tori turned to levitate another box, but gently lowered it back down at the sound of her name. “It is, indeed,” she agreed, a polite smile on her lips as she turned fully to face the other woman, giving her undivided attention. Clearly, the dark-haired woman knew her - which wasn’t unusual; she was known to work at the shop on occasion, even when she was in school - though sadly, Tori couldn’t say the same of her. She did look rather familiar, however - so perhaps she’ll learn more on further communication. Stashing her wand in the pocket of her apron, she continued brightly. “I would be glad to be of assistance. How can I help you today?”
