Juliana Ainsworth vs. Kristoffer Lestrange
#1
27th April, 1894 — Hogsmeade Memorial Assembly Rooms, Duelling tournament

The judge clasped his hands together, crisply casting around a look at the crowd before surveying the two opponents in front of him — ah, that was the former Minister's secretary was it not? Also the current one too, which would be interesting to see how she faired against a Lestrange. This particular Lestrange however, he wasn't entirely sure if he'd read the roster correctly; so after reading the rules he continued on in earnest: "Miss Ainsworth please begin when you are ready!"

A duel felt supremely exciting to Juliana; she had never had an opportunity to learn this sort of magic at Hogwarts since she'd left early, and her mother would never have heard of her trying her hand at such an unladylike past time... but this was another mark in favor of marriage, because Juliana's husband cared not the slightest what hobbies she wanted to explore. So here she was — dueling! How grand.

She greeted Mr. Lestrange and then fired a babbling hex in his direction.

Kristoffer was not especially cowed at the prospect of duelling a woman, or the Minister’s secretary at that. After bowing in greeting, he waited for her to start and then shot off a Jelly-Fingers jinx, hoping she would fumble her wand and save him any trouble.

Miss Ainsworth's spell had the intended affect: Mr. Lestrange's spell casting was interrupted by a string of incoherent words, thus rendering his magic completely moot. After announcing Miss Ainsworth the victor, he said: "Mr. Lestrange once you've recovered please commence the second pass."

Kris was less than impressed by this turn of events, and once he had command of his tongue again, he shot back Furnunculus in vengeance, hoping she would break out into ugly boils. The more painful the better.

Juliana was a bit surprised to have taken the first round, but nonetheless delighted. Hexes were rather fun, she had decided — no wonder people enjoyed dueling, since it was the only acceptable time to use them. She didn't recognize the one Mr. Lestrange was aiming her way for the second round, so could only hope a simple shield charm would suffice — and that if it bounced off her shield and into the crowd it wouldn't leave anyone too mangled.

Well that was....quite something. Miss Ainsworth's spell might as well have not been cast. But Mr. Lestrange's retaliation hit her and as intent as he looked at making it a painful one, Miss Ainsworth broke out in approximately 3 and a half boils and no more. As Miss Ainsworth was set to rights, the judge announced: "This point goes to Mr. Lestrange. Miss Ainsworth please begin our tie breaker when you are recovered."

Juliana liked being on the receiving end of hexes considerably less. With a frown she aimed a body-binding curse at the young man.

Kristoffer probably ought to have cast something useful in response, like a shield charm – but instead he cast a Sardine hex, for jokes.

He had never seen someone sneeze up sardines before, but there was always a first for everything. It looked rather uncomfortable, so once a few had been expelled from Miss Ainsworth's person, the judge ceased the hex and announced Mr. Lestrange the winner.
