SERAPHINA nee ROWLE
1860 | UCPB | SLYTHERDOR | SOCIALITE
Cursed during her first season for being too flirtatious—Papa didn’t want to risk her ruining the family. Spunky and charismatic before the curse, but as bland as paste after. Married with children. Voted most likely to give away that They Know, as she is furious about what their father has done to them. Suggested PB is Tuppence Middleton.
ALGERNON ROWLE
1815 - 1820 | UCPB | RAVENDOR | INVESTOR; PROBABLY WIZENGAMOT
As the only son to his parents, Algernon Rowle was raised on the idea of legacy. After all, as heir, what was his responsibility if not to secure the legacy of the Rowle family? This left him rather... high strung in his youth, and he might have developed a laudanum addiction if his father had not aggressively nipped that habit in the bud. By his late 20s, Algernon was a bit more balanced, though still had issues with controlling things around him that he never quite shook.
This came to a head in fatherhood, beginning with his daughter Miranda: he systematically began instigating the Imperius Curse against his children so that the family legacy might be secure. Indeed, he spent so many years justifying it that he doesn't even register it as a problem anymore.
In late summer of 1893, Algernon suffered a stroke. While he will, between you me and the lamp-post, retain most of his faculties, he is currently in a coma whilst his children scheme against him... Suggested PB is Sam Neill.
HER
1848 - 1850 | ACMB | OPEN HOUSE | OPEN OCCUPATION
Robin met "Letitia" at a generic ball—hardly the usual stage for grand romance. But between her beauty and her charms and her quick wit, he was quite instantly smitten. It was only after he had been courting her for a fortnight that the Great Problem made itself known: she was a muggleborn. Knowing his father would never allow the match, the two planned to elope in secret. Unfortunately, Miranda Saw a betrayal in her tea leaves and, as those Cursed are wont to do, reported it to their father. That altercation is the last clear memory that Robin knows is his own. He has not acknowledged her since. Now he is Awake, and wants to reconnect.
Though born to the upper-middle or straight-upper class, she is not necessarily there now. What happened to her in the intervening years is up to you! Did she get married and live happily ever after? Is she a widow now? Did she find herself a dick of a husband? Has she emigrated? Did she bear Robin's child out of wedlock? The world is your oyster—have some fun with it! Pictured PB is Rosamund Pike, but both face and ethnicity are incredibly open.
MADOC YARWOOD
38+ | UCHB/UCPB | SLYTHERIN | DRAGON ENTHUSIAST
At the age of four, Madoc Yarwood saw his first dragon, flying low above the family home. He was transfixed, even as he saw it acquire a nearby sheep and his nanny hastily tried to usher him to safety. Thus was born a fascination that would last for decades to come.
His father used to compare him to a dragon, too: bold, intelligent, but with a recklessness to him. It was for this reason, no doubt, that he was passed over in his father's will: instead of the lot (the Glen, its manor, the tennant farms, the Wellingtonshire house, the London house), he inherited a cottage in the Glen, a smaller house in London, and a share in the breeding stables, while the rest went to his elder sister. Though publicly entirely affronted, privately, Madoc was rather glad to have less of the responsibility of things.
The current reserve is the second iteration, reopened by Madoc himself with the Family Money, about eighteen years ago following three decades' closure. He fancies himself a dragonologist and outdoorsman with a businessman's edge, working with the keepers, doing his own research, and otherwise indulging passions that, being largely snubbed by the inheritance process, he might not have been able to afford without his wife's dowry and a little bit of brotherly blackmail to ensure the reservation would be reopened—and maintained—for his lifetime.
Personality-wise, he had the reputation of being a bit of a playboy even for the first few years of his marriage; though he is still a frequent presence at the card table or around a boxing ring, he has otherwise mellowed out substantially. He is as happy out in the "wilds" of the Glen as he is amidst high society, two sides of the same coin—no one, he is convinced, truly knows who he is under these opposing proclivities. Fun fact: the Hogwarts dragon debacle was his fault, part of his less-than-legal efforts to produce a more tamable dragon so that he might ride one someday. It clearly did not go to plan. Pictured PB is Matt Smith.
