Springing Forward

My dearest Calla,

It is so delightful to see the flowers blooming, the daffodils and tulips in the garden have sprung wide open. When one variety withers it seems there is the next one to add to the blossoms. The ones you planted as a little girl under the window are smiling at me right now as I write this letter. I think of you every time I see their beautiful peach petals. It reminds me that soon enough you shall be home with us again.

Preparations for the flower show are well under way and are keeping your sisters and I very busy. I am hoping that I might get some of the other High Street shops to contribute as well. Mr. Honeyduke's has already agreed. I would like to find a way to encorporate Mr. Virani into the show. Have you any ideas? I'm sure Thistle or Zinnia might be able to assist him if we can find a way.

Dahlia has assured me that she sent you a letter, but did you hear her good news yet? You should also be recieving a letter from Daffodil soon if you have not already. As I am sure you can imagine we are full of spring smiles over here.

How are your studies going? In your last letter you mentioned that you have a Potions exam coming up, did it go alright? How are your friends? Are you eating enough?

All my love,
Mama

Mama,

You are being silly Mama. Like you said, I'll be home soon enough. Besides, you see me on Hogsmeade trips. I look forward though to graduating and being around to help. I feel as if I miss a great deal of fun here.

It might be too late to for this, but it could always be stored as an idea for next year. Whizzhard could maybe set up a booth with flower related books - garden care, floral arrangements. And if you wanted to the Apothecary could sell dried ingredients- flowers only if they have enough or just plant based ones.

As for Mr Virani... I'm not sure. My first thought is of those clocks you can get. You know the ones that show where someone is. What if he could make a clock that showed when a flower would bloom? Like showing that morning glories are in bloom, etc.

I have heard from both! Isn't wonderful? I've already told them I don't care if I at school, I want to help plan. It isn't every day one of my sisters get married. And I'm sure you are just beyond yourself momma.

My studies are going well enough. I'm no Daffy but I'll get through the year just fine. The potions exam did go well though! It seems like it is getting easier. Well not easier. But like I'm doing better.  Everyone is doing good but I'm sure you'll see them all this summer. But it is... odd. The boys are all graduating this year. And I feel as if it will be too quiet. It will be like loosing Alice all over again but instead three times over. I miss Alice dreadfully and I know I'm going to miss them all too.
love,
Calla

My darling it is a mother's job to be silly and sentimental. You know quite as well as I do that I take that job very seriously. That said, there is no need to rush your growing up. It will happen in due time and when you do return home for good I know you shall greatly miss the life you had at Hogwarts. But it does not do to dwell too long on the future when the present is so brightly blooming about us.

Those are wonderful ideas, my dearest calla lily. I shall reach out to both of them and see if something might be brought about for this year. Two weeks seems a managable amount of time to rustle up some supplies for such stalls. Remind me this summer when you are home to discuss ideas for next year with you. You have such a wonderful mind for collaborating with our neighbors. Then again, as your mother, I am duty bound to point out all the wonderful aspects of your mind and soul. There I go again being silly and sentimental.

Dahlia seems quite set on a late summer wedding, she wants to make sure she is married before you are back at school, and I am certain she shall be happy to have you assist her. Daffy and I have already begun to discuss options for flowers with her. Thistle and I are looking at finding a way to have dahlias for her bouquet that do not make her sneeze, but I want it to be a surprise so please don't mention it to her. I know she loves how they look and they have such a beautiful meaning. Besides, the bright colors of their blooms remind me much of Mr. Honeyduke's spirit.

As for Daffy's own news I can only hope she shall be engaged by the fall. Hopefully then we can plan a spring wedding for her before your debuate that way you shall not be overshadowed. Besides, you know Daffy, she cares little for the spotlight. Dahlia, however, thrives in it. Much like the flower she was named after.

I am so glad to hear your studies are going well. I know potions is not the easiest subject to master, but you are doing an admirable job of it if you've been able to even take a N.E.W.T. level in it. Please, darling, do not compare yourself to your sisters. They each have their own strengths and interests as you do. You are all as unique as the flowers you are named after, my own bouquet of variety. I love you all the more for it.

Change is such a difficult thing. I wish I could write you more comforting words, but I know that missing Alice and your other friends is such a tough thing that words won't mend. It is a sorrow to see the patterns of the past change. You shall always be able to write with them and to remember the many years you had with them, and know you are always allowed to invite them for supper. These things are little ways to stave off the sorrow of change, but sometimes the little things become the big things over time. Much like a well watered tulip bulb. Keep watering your friendships, my dear, and you shall still watch them blossom in the right season, even if there are seasons when they look barren and alone.

I love you my dearest Calla.

Mama
