Okay, I need at least 1-2 active relationships for this to work. I'm going to list out some more concrete ideas for what that could look like in the hopes it sparks some ~things but caveat that I am still super open to basically everything so don't view this as an exclusive list.
THE MENTOR YOU NEVER ASKED FOR: My character holds an occupation they care about and their death leads your character to move into that spot. My character hassles you to try and get you to do it "right." THIS COULD BE YOU IF: your character is employed and meets the requirements for a promotion (or you have an AtO to use).
THE FAMILY NAME AT STAKE: Similar to above, but my character was your sibling and their death leaves you as the oldest son/oldest unmarried woman, and my character is really invested in making sure you don't screw that up. THIS COULD BE YOU IF: you have unplayed older siblings and can sign off on them dying (eg not canons/ other people's wanted ads).
WOULD-BE SPOUSE: Our characters meet and discuss marriage. Severity of conversations is open, from casual to engagement. My character's death leaves you free to look elsewhere... but you're sort of hurting my feelings. THIS COULD BE YOU IF: your character at least appears marriageable on paper.
CHILDHOOD CRUSH: Our characters knew they couldn't marry (they're the same gender? Class difference? Age thing?) but there were still some ~feelings and those have been complicated by my character dying. THIS COULD BE YOU IF: your character is emotionally unattached.
BUSINESS VENTURE: Our characters were going to start a business/ invest in something together and now my character's death has... complicated things. THIS COULD BE YOU IF: your character has any unrealized business/charity/etc interests, or your interested in a career change for them.
BLACKMAIL? My character knows a secret about yours, and you were fairly confident it wouldn't come out... but death has changed the balance of things. THIS COULD BE YOU IF: your character has a secret that someone else could learn.
CO-PET PARENTS: Your character adopts my character's beloved pet after mine dies. This new pet is... a handful. Don't you dare say a bad word about them. THIS COULD BE YOU IF: you want. Literally anyone haha.
Open to ideas that don't fit these categories also! The more connections the better this character could be so please throw things at me!
