Melody couldn't fathom a scenario in which her mother would abandon her to the hands of an unrelated man.

He was so calm too, which caused her to panic all the more. "I don't understand, please help me understand." Tears of confusion and fear slipped down her cheeks. "Why are you here and she's not?"
