Her breath caught in her throat before she could exhale it; Zelda moved her head, but just enough so that she could see his face, not enough to really pull back. "You're not leaving," she echoed, a little dumbly. But some of the nervousness left her all the same — she had not been consciously thinking that he would, but she'd known it was an option. Last Spring, she'd asked him to stay. He hadn't written her from the Santa Antonina. Things were weird between them. It stood to reason that if things went wrong enough, Alfred could just leave — he had a boat and the skills to sail it, so he could leave.
