Was her sister in love? It was clear that someone was in love with her sister, or at least cared for her enough to where the lack of response was eating him alive day-by-day. She felt bad... maybe she should tell Gretchen.
But then... she'd burned one letter, and had kept one from ten days prior. How could she explain her reasoning for not handing them over sooner? Of course, she could go on for days about how she wanted to protect her sister from heartbreak, but their dynamic had never been one that suggested Gretchen's feelings were the ones in need of protecting. Gretchen was a force to be reckoned with when she wanted to, and with her NEWTs so close she was not sure that was another force she wanted to fight against.
She threw it in the fire—alongside the first letter after digging it from under her mattress.
