Her pouting and complaining was enough to ease the tension in the air long enough for Lachlan's nerves to settle. He could push his insecurities to the back of his mind and focus on the present, which was probably for the best given that she was still in his house and he wasn't the one who could run off. He exhaled loudly through his nose in place of a chuckle, and moved in her direction, pausing next to her to touch her shoulder.
"If it's any consolation, I enjoyed it," he said, wondering if he should have kept that bit of information in his thoughts. He didn't take the time to let it weigh his mind down, and instead walked around the couch and grabbed the cup of tea she'd abandoned on the coffee table. "You know, you made such a fuss about my lack of biscuits, but you haven't bothered asking for one since I bought them." He was teasing, mostly, in order to take the attention off their kiss, but as he envisioned the jar of biscuits in the kitchen he couldn't help but remember how she'd looked standing there the night he'd first kissed her. His heart jumped but he shoved the thought away; it wouldn't do him any good to focus on the past when there was the pressing matter of the present.
He paused by her side as he headed back towards the hallway and towards the kitchen, and all the amusement dropped from his face, leaving him looking a little too solemn. "Would you like another cup, or—?"
