Dearest Bella, I am so glad to hear that you are alright. However, I admit I am rather sore at having found out through a newspaper! Mother said there had been a stir yesterday at your home, but she hadn't mentioned anything more and seems quite content to leave me in the dark. I admit that my relief in your having been found alive is extreme but I have rarely been so upset. I should have thought us rather closer than having to find out of your circumstances through hearsay and newspapers! While you were with us I considered you my sister and had rather hoped to be afforded the same feelings on your side, but I find myself baffled how one might neglect to tell those who care about her that she is still alive!
I wish you to know that I am still here for you despite how cross I am with you and that I truly am still your very dear friend. Please, please, write to me. I miss you dearly and wish to see for my own two eyes that you really are alive.
Your deeply concerned cousin,
L. F.
