She didn't laugh at him. It was funny, because Sloane hadn't either, despite both girls knowing what a terrible student he was (and worse, how he usually lacked all seriousness while studying). It struck him in that moment that maybe his friends had more faith in him than he had for himself; it made him feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but also a little disappointed in them for being so idealistic.

"I don't expect you to help me. I got myself into this problem. I should probably be the one to work myself out of it."
